"Mom, hurry up! We have to leave soon!" I called out, pacing impatiently near the door. My heart was racing with excitement and nerves, knowing that soon I would be back with her. This whole week had been unbearable—working without Aki, pretending to ignore her for the sake of the surprise, watching her frustration grow from a distance—it sucked.
Abhi had called me yesterday, telling me that Aki had left the mansion and gone back home because she was feeling too lonely. She hadn’t even told me she was going! I told her a million times that for her safety, she should stay at the mansion, but no, she didn’t listen. She even argued with Abhi when he tried to convince her. She was angry—really angry—and I hated that it was my doing.
But today, I was going to fix it. I’d told Abhi to pick her up and drop her off at work, and we’d even stationed a bodyguard outside her building. The surprise was ready, and I was finally heading back to Mumbai—one day earlier than planned, just to see her reaction. I couldn’t wait.
Mom finally appeared, all set and ready. "Let's go," she said, and we hurried to the car. My private jet was waiting for us at the airport. The excitement grew stronger as we boarded. The four-hour flight felt longer than it should have, my mind racing with thoughts of how Aki would react. Would she be happy? Surprised? Or still mad at me?
We landed in Mumbai around 4:30 AM. After dropping mom off at the mansion to rest, I began setting up everything for Aki's surprise. I didn't sleep for a minute, double-checking every detail. Abhi, Joravar, Priyanka, and even Mona were in on it and had been informed to join us later.
By the time I was finally done, it was already morning. I rushed to my room to take a quick shower and change into my favorite outfit. The anticipation was killing me, and strangely, I felt nervous. It wasn’t like me to be so anxious, but seeing her after a week—it was messing with my head.
I came downstairs, where mom was already sitting at the breakfast table. I quickly joined her, barely touching my food as my mind raced with thoughts of Aki. Just then, I saw Abhi coming in. As expected, he went straight to mom.
“Ohh, mom, I missed you so much!” Abhi said, sounding like a little kid as he hugged her tightly.
Mom smiled, patting his back affectionately. "If you missed me so much, then why didn’t you come to bring me here?" she asked, pretending to be angry but clearly amused.
Abhi grinned sheepishly, pulling back from the hug. "I would have, but bhai insisted on going alone! You know how he gets when he has a plan."
I laughed, shaking my head. "Yeah, because I needed you here to make sure everything went smoothly. Someone had to keep an eye on Aki, right?"
At the mention of her name, my chest tightened. The thought of seeing her after a week of barely talking, of ignoring her for the sake of this surprise...I just hoped it would all be worth it.
Abhi caught the look on my face and raised an eyebrow. “You nervous, bro?”
I rolled my eyes, trying to play it cool. “No, just...ready.”
