We stumbled back through the passage, smoke swirling in the air. My heart raced as Echo stayed close, its frame illuminating the way.

“Echo, are you okay?” I gasped.

“Structural integrity compromised. Monitoring for threats,” it replied, calm despite the chaos.

As we emerged into the main server room, a sense of dread enveloped me. “What was that place?” I asked, my mind racing.

“An unregistered sector. The console may be connected to the anomalies,” Echo explained. “We must act quickly.”

I moved to the terminal, fingers trembling as I pulled up the system logs. “Filter for irregularities,” I instructed, needing answers despite the mounting fear.

“Filtering now. Recent anomalies detected in Sector C,” Echo said. “They correlate with power surges.”

“Surges? What does that mean?” I pressed.

“Suggests a malfunction or deliberate disruption,” it replied.

Before I could respond, a crash echoed from the hallway, followed by a low growl. “What was that?” I whispered, heart racing.

“Unidentified entity detected. Preparing defensive protocols,” Echo warned.

I grabbed a nearby wrench, ready to defend myself. “We need to move!”

As we backed away, the air thickened, and shadows twisted along the walls. Then, a figure stepped into the dim light—humanoid but distorted.

“Xenon!” Echo shouted. “Prepare for—”

The creature lunged, and I swung the wrench instinctively, striking it back. Echo positioned itself protectively in front of me.

“Who are you?” I yelled at the creature, feeling defiant despite my fear.

“I am the echo of what was lost,” it hissed, advancing with a jerky motion. “You will join us…”

Panic surged as I looked to Echo. “We need to get out of here!”

“Evacuation route compromised. We must hold our ground,” it replied.

The creature lunged again. I swung the wrench, connecting with a metallic thud. It stumbled but pressed forward.

“Focus on its core!” Echo shouted, directing my attention to a pulsing light at its center.

With determination, I darted forward and struck the core with all my strength. The creature screeched and collapsed, flickering like a faulty machine. Silence filled the room.

“Now!” Echo urged, breaking the stillness.

Nodding, I glanced back at the fallen figure. The darkness loomed closer, and I couldn’t shake the feeling we had only begun to uncover the horrors ahead.

As we fled the server room, I realized the abyss was calling, and we had to prepare for whatever lay ahead.
