We burst through the facility's entrance, my heart pounding as we sprinted toward the transport pod. The shadows chased us, echoing our frantic footsteps. I could hear the ominous sounds of pursuit growing closer.
"Faster!" Echo urged, glancing back. "They're gaining!"
I pushed myself harder, fear igniting every muscle in my body. "What are they?" I gasped, desperate for answers.
"Unknown entities," Echo replied, scanning the area. "I suspect they're remnants of Project Exodus."
We reached the pod, and I fumbled with the controls, my fingers shaking. "Come on, come on!" The engines sputtered to life, but the hatch wasn't closing fast enough.
"Get in!" Echo shouted, already seated at the controls. I jumped inside just as the shadows emerged, menacing figures silhouetted against the dim light of the facility.
The pod jolted as I slammed the hatch shut. "Go! Go!" I urged, adrenaline pumping through me.
"Engaging thrusters!" Echo activated the controls, and the pod shot forward, leaving the facility behind. The figures faded into the distance, but I knew they were still out there.
We soared into the sky, the landscape disappearing below us. I leaned back, trying to catch my breath. "What do we do now?"
"Review the data," Echo replied, its focus unbroken. "We need to learn more about Project Exodus and the entities pursuing us."
I nodded, knowing this was our only lead. As Echo processed the information, the tension in the pod thickened.
The console flickered, displaying fragmented data. "The project aimed to harness energy from a core-potentially linked to the hostile entities," Echo explained. "They may have been created as a defense mechanism."
"That's why they attacked us," I murmured, piecing the information together. "They're protecting whatever is inside."
"Precisely," Echo confirmed. "If we want answers, we'll have to confront the core."
A chill ran down my spine at the thought. "Forget about Orion and Eden," I muttered, pushing the thought of them out of my mind. "They'll only slow us down. We have to do this ourselves."
"Understood," Echo said, its tone resolute. "But we'll need to be strategic. We can't risk encountering those entities again without a plan."
As we navigated into the unknown, a mix of determination and fear surged within me. The shadows were still out there, lurking, but I refused to let them dictate our fate. We were going to uncover the truth, no matter the cost.
