I struggle to close the button on my jeans. How much weight can you put on overnight.
"My shirt," Jo hissed.
I followed her gaze and did a sissy squat to pick it up. I threw the graphic shirt on her face.
"I can't be late again," she said. "Brett!"
"What." I snapped back and gave up on the pants.
"My jeans." She frantically waved her hands.
I stared her alienating for a few moments. Until my eyes dropped to my jeans on floor between us.
"Oh." My face heated up.
"Oh." She mimicked me in a few notch higher pitch.
I pulled it off and slipped in my own. I reached for her hand. I lead us through a maze of open books and undone assignments.
The best thing about living in a house full of werewolves. Everyone and everything is loud.
Still, we tiptoed down stairs. It was better if we moved fast, nothing was more suspicious of someone who tried to be silent.
At the bottom of the staircase, I leaned forward to look in the kitchen. The house was already occupied by visitors. Something deeply engraved in my childhood, that I never once questioned it.
But this time. I really wished the coffee brewing masked my crimes.
Jo rested her forehead against the hollow space between my shoulder blades. It is better to leave before she fallen asleep.
I turned around and mouthed up.
Jo made a grimace. She would have to use the window and Josie hated hight. She hated anything that would damage her clothes even more.
Before I even could lift my feet up, Satomi caught us.
"Brett, come in here," her voice gentler carried from the kitchen.
Perhaps, only me.
I glanced back at Josie before making my way to the kitchen.
"You too, Josie."
Lilly smiled smugly playing with a spoon between her hands. Tierney raised an eyebrow.
"Do you want breakfast?" She held up a small basked of bread.
Jo posture got small. She was not good at confronting people, especially older people.
"School." I put my hand behind my back. Presented the prep school Brett. The lacrosse captain Brett. The Brett most people see him as.
"You still have time." Satomi looked at her watch less wrist.
"She's a hungry woman." I smiled with my mouth closed.
"Yeah, so hungry." Jo touched her stomach.
Did I mention how awkward she was. Adorably awkward. Maybe, we would not be in trouble after all.
"And, my mo- I will leave now." She walked and glanced back every other step.
Mark laughed and took a sip of his steaming coffee.
I pointed behind me and tried to say something, but it never got out.
"School, I got it." Satomi raised her mug.
My sister was making inappropriate gestures. Including sticking their tung out and shaking their head and others I want to forget.
I fixed my posture and walked away with the little dignity I had left.
