"I think I'm going to like it here," Blake said, looking at some of the papers that she got from the University of Pittsburgh. "Their doctorate program also seems really good. So if I want to carry on and come back for that, it will be great."
"That's great, honey," Tree said. Tree opted to attend the tour with Blake and Taylor, giving Blake that parental figure that Blake so desperately wanted. Over the course of the day, Tree learned so much about Blake and what her home life was like. It made sense why she and Taylor were so close as friends and basically morphed into sisters over the years. From what she knew, Blake's parents were present but not attentive. If she needed something, they weren't readily available to help her. Knowing that her parents didn't even know she was thinking about pursuing her education further broke Tree's heart. She didn't understand why parents who didn't want to be parents were given such wonderful children while she struggled her whole life to even get pregnant. She was so thankful that life brought Taylor, and now Blake, into her life. She would parent them as if they were her own from this moment forward because being a mother was all she had ever wanted in life.
"Thank you for coming with me, Tree. I was really nervous. Usually, Ryan would have come with me to something like this, but he has another interview." Tree unlocked the car doors, allowing them access.
"It's no problem. As long as you are here, Lance and I will be your makeshift parents." Each of them got into the car, and Blake let out a little laugh.
"I really appreciate it."
"Tay, what are you thinking? I can see the gears turning in your head," Tree said as she started the car, looking over at Taylor.
"I don't know," Taylor said with a sigh. "Maybe I can enroll too, but for a Masters in Accounting. I know you guys keep saying I can do something I like more, but I really do like accounting. It has started to come easy to me, and I'm really good at it."
"If that's what you want to do, you can do that," Tree tried to reassure her. It was never Lance's or her intent to try to talk Taylor out of what she was doing; they just wanted to make sure she knew she had options to do something else if she really wanted to. "You have time dear. When does the semester start Blake?"
"Um," Blake said, shuffling through the papers she had in her hands. "August 26," she finally said after finding the correct paper. "Enrollment ends the same day. So, you have a little over a month to decide Tay."
"I'll think about it. I don't know if I will be mentally ready to go back to school just yet. I want to make sure Michael is adjusted; I want to get a job; I just don't know if I can add school on top of that right now." Taylor said, thinking about everything. She knew that with Michael starting a new school, things might be a little rough for him. She wanted to be available if she needed to go to the school and comfort him. She knew she and Travis talked about him going to the school where he and Ross worked, but she still knew that her baby would want his mommy if he were ever upset enough that he couldn't control himself.
"That's fine. There's no rush. You can go back whenever you want to if you decide you really want to. Lance and I are here to help," Tree told her. Taylor responded with a head nod. She really had to think about everything happening around her. A lot was changing at once, and she wasn't sure if she was ready to add school for herself on top of it all. "What do you guys say? Mexican for lunch?"
"Sounds great!" Blake said form the back seat as Tree backed out of the parking spot that she was in.
"I like that idea," Taylor replied.
