"You really scared me today," she whispered, playing with his fingers. They had been laying in silence, careful not to wake Michael who was laying on the other side of Taylor.
"What?" He asked softly. "When did I scare you, baby? I'm sorry." His mind went racing. What did he do to scare her? When exactly did it happen? He tried to comb through every event of the day quickly in his mind. The only think that came to mind was Kayla.
"The way you talked to Kayla, like your tone with her, it scared me a little bit," she admitted.
"I'm so sorry, baby," He brought her fingers to his lips, kissing each of them.
"Your voice just felt like ice running down my back when you addressed her. It reminded me of Jake, and it was a little scary. I've never heard you speak to anyone like that before, not even your brother when you were mad at him," she said, recalling a time when they were teenagers when he and Jason got into a physical fight at camp. She knew that he got angry, that he could have a temper if things didn't go exactly his way or if someone did something to upset him, but the way he spoke tonight was new. She didn't enjoy hearing him that way.
"She just makes me regret ever meeting her, Tay." He spoke. He readjusted their fingers, intertwining them. "It's like she aims to make my life miserable because she can't get it through her head that I never wanted a relationship with her." Taylor's fingers wiggled out of his hand and traveled to his face. "I'm sorry you had to see me that way. I'm sorry I scared you. I should have controlled my emotions better in the moment."
Her fingers ran lightly over his beard as she looked him in his eyes, which were starting to well up with tears. "I know you didn't mean to. I just wanted to let you know what I was thinking at the time. I'm so sorry that she's being a bitch. I don't want you to think that you can't be you because of my trauma." She wiped away the tears that were starting to roll down his face.
"How I acted with her isn't me, baby. She brings something out of me that no one else ever has," he told her. It pained him to think that he caused her some type of pain because of someone he wanted nothing to do with. It pained him that he could have been the reason she had a flashback earlier but didn't say anything about it. "I'm going to try to get a restraining order against her to make sure she stays away from me, away from us and Michael. I can't have her interfering and messing up what we're trying to build together."
"Is there anyway that she could really be pregnant for you? Or Ross?"
"Absolutely not, baby." He paused for a second and thought. "Well, definitely not me. I honestly haven't touched her since April, maybe even March. I can't remember. And I think Ross was only with her once, and it was to get her into his room so that I could get out of the apartment so I could go over to see you and Michael one morning. He took one for the team that day." A smile peaked onto his face when she let out a little giggle. He could listen to her giggle all day if he had the option to. "God, I love your laugh."
"And I love you," Taylor told him. Travis grabbed her leg and pulled her into him, draping her leg over his leg. "We have a son in the bed with us, mister."
"I know," Travis said, a small laugh escaping him. He slipped his hand beneath her shirt, gently rubbing her back. "I just like when your skin is on my skin. It helps me sleep better."
"Is that right?" She asked only moments before he connected his lips to hers.
