"This is ridiculous," Kylie complained. "I can't believe he has us doing this."
"Oh, come on, it's so sweet and romantic," Selena defended as she covered the floor with rose petals. Taylor and Selena were hopeless romantics who found almost any gesture that was even remotely romantic to be the sweetest thing they had ever seen in their lives, while Kylie just thought it was cute, at best.
"It is sweet and it is romantic, but that doesn't mean it's not outlandish and ridiculous," Kylie said, throwing up another red balloon and tying it. She threw it onto the floor and grabbed yet another one to blow up.
"You're just jealous that Jason doesn't do anything like this for you," Selena told her, sticking her tongue out at Kylie.
"I am very thankful that he doesn't because I would tell him he is out of his damn mind." Nothing Selena said was going to convince her otherwise. "Matter of fact, let's call Blake, maybe she can be a voice of reason here." Kylie said. She grabbed her phone and FaceTimed Blake. Since Taylor was apart of their lives again, Blake was now also a fixture in their friendship group. There had been a brand new girls group chat made that included her, and all of them got along well enough that the group chat had broken off into individual chats as well.
"I bet she's going to agree with me," Selena said with a huff.
"Hey," Blake's voice sang through Kylie's phone once she answered. "What's going on?" She asked, seeing that Kylie's setting seemed different.
"So, have you heard?" Kylie asked Blake.
"That Tay has a day date with her man today? Yes, I heard," Blake said, with a smile. Selena walked over to where Kylie was sitting, and sat next to her. "Hey Selena!" Selena responded with a wave.
"Well, their date is ending at this hotel. He has me and Selena decorating it with balloons and rose petals." Kylie said, not noticing that Blake's smile was only getting bigger with each word she said. "We even have to hand up these balloon letters to make it spell out 'Will You Be My Girlfriend?'"
"That is the most romantic thing anyone has ever done for her. I'm so happy for her!" Blake said.
"See, told you," Selena told Kylie.
"How don't you guys find this ridiculous!" Kylie asked, feeling a beat defeated.
"Kylie, does Jason not do romantic things for you?" Blake asked, with a little laugh.
"I would kill him if he ever did anything like this. It's too much," Kylie replied.
"Ryan did something similar for me when he asked me to be his girlfriend. Of course, it wasn't at a hotel or anything, but it was roses on a posterboard! I still have it. It's been years!" Blake told the two of them.
"Oh my God, I'm surrounded by hopeless romantics," Kylie said with a whine.
"Let me see what you guys have done so far so I can send screenshots to Ryan to give him ideas," Blake told Kylie, who just simply shook her head. She did as she was told, showing Blake the unfinished product. "She is going to LOVE it. I can't wait to hear all about it tomorrow," Blake said. She was smiling so hard that her face was starting to hurt. "She deserves this so much. You guys have no idea." Of course, Selena and Kylie knew Taylor deserved to be treated special after all she had been through, but Blake knew the ins and outs of everything that Taylor refused to speak about. One day, she was sure she would spill the beans to the other girls about the things that Taylor would never bring up again, but for now, it was something that she held inside her for her best friend's sake.
"Hey, Blake. I'm going to call you back. One of my co-workers is calling me," Kylie said, seeing Dia's name and number pop up on her screen.
"Okay, send me pictures when you guys are done; I want to see everything," Blake said quickly before the three of them said their goodbyes and hung up.
"Hey, Dia, what's up?" Kylie said, answering the incoming phone call.
"So, guess who I just saw out," Dia started without a greeting. That was what Kylie loved most about Dia, she had no time for pleasantries for the most part, she always dove straight into the point of her phone call.
"Who?" Kylie asked, not having the slightest clue who she could be talking about.
"Travis and picture girl!" Dia said. "I know you guys said she was a real person, but I was seriously starting to doubt all of you."
"Picture girl?" Selena asked, getting up from where she was sitting to return to her decorating.
"That's what they started calling Tay because of Travis' picture of her on his desk," Kylie explained.
"She's really cute," Dia said. "But, is she okay? She has that big scar on her face. She's kind of jumpy. Took me by surprise when she kind of hid behind Travis when I approached them." Kylie could hear the hint of concern in Dia's voice. Dia was like an older sister to herself and Travis. She was in her 30s and had taken them both under her wing when they started at the school they worked at, well that now only Travis worked at since she was going to a new one at the beginning of the school year.
"Yeah, she's working through it. She's been through a lot over the last couple of years," Kylie said, not wanting to tell too much of Taylor's business to someone who was essentially a stranger to Taylor.
"Okay, just wanted to make sure. She seems very sweet. They look good together," Dia complimented. "That's all I wanted to say, I'll let you go back to your day."
"Wait, before you go. Let me ask you something," Kylie said, looking over at Selena, who just rolled her eyes at her.
"What's up?" Dia asked.
"So, part of Travis and Taylor's date involves them coming back to a hotel, right?" Kylie started.
"Oh shit, my baby boy is getting some tonight," Dia said with a laugh.
"Focus, Dia," Kylie told her, laughing a little bit as well. "Well, he has me and one of our other friends decorating the hotel with balloons, candles, and rose petals. He wants us to hand these balloon letters up to spell out "Will You Be My Girlfriend?" and everything," Kylie explained.
"Cute. Excessive but cute," Dia replied.
"So, by excessive, you mean you find it ridiculous that he is doing all of this, right?" Kylie asked, wanting a straightforward answer from the older woman.
"Yes, but if that's what he wants to do for his girl, that's his right," Dia said.
"Okay, that's all I needed because this hopeless romantic over here refuses to say that it's ridiculous!" Kylie said, sticking her tongue out at Selena.
