"We have to have a preliminary exam before we can move on to the real one." Hayate stated.
"Huh?"
"A what?"
"Preliminary?! Just what do you mean by that?!" shikamaru yelled.
"I'm sorry. Sensei excuse me, but I really don't see the point. What's this preliminary all about?" Sakura asked. "Why can't we just move on to the third exam?"
"Uh, well you see, the first and second exams might have been too easy. The fact is we never expected so many of you to still be here." Hayate said. "According to the rules of the Chunin Exams, a preliminary round can be held at any stage, in order to reduce the number of candidates remaining."
"B-But! Is that fair?"
"It's just at this stage we have to speed things up a bit. As Lord Hokage said a lot of important guest will be watching and we can't afford to waste their time." Hayate said. "They've come to see only the best."
"So if there's any of you who feels your not in top physical condition now is your chance to—*cough cough*"
'Talk about not being in top physical condition.' Ino thought as everyone looked at the proctor in worry (well almost everyone).
'The proctor doesn't look so good himself.' Hinata thought.
"Sorry about that. As I was saying any of you who don't feel up to this, now is the time for you to step out. The preliminary will be starting immediately."
"Come on, you mean right now!" Kiba yelled.
"Come on, we barely finished surviving the last exam, don't we get a break?" Ino asked.
"Man, what a drag." shikamaru whined.
"Heyyyy, when do we eat?" Choji asked.
"Oh yeah, the winners will be determined by one-on-one combat sudden death. So like I said if theirs anyone who doesn't feel up to it now is the time to raise your hand."
Aki watched as Sasuke winced in pain at the mark, but paid no mind to it, even with Sakura begging him to quiet, he won't be doing that.
As expected Kabuto gave up. You know at this point he should do a gap in between taking these exams, I'm surprised no one's been suspected him yet.
'Sorry, Naruto. Sorry Sasuke. Wish I could stick around and play a little longer. But if I did that....the old me might get stirred up.' Kabuto thought. 'Can't have that, might blow my cover, wouldn't be much use as a spy after that.'
'Beside, I've already done my job. With you here looking after things, you don't need me do you, Lord Orochimaru?'
