That weekend, Taehyung found himself pacing around his living room, clutching the bear keychain Jungkook had given him. The thought of attending a family dinner with the Jeons made him both anxious and intrigued. He had never been one to socialize outside of work, especially not in settings where he couldn't rely on his usual stoic demeanor to maintain distance.
Still, the memory of Jungkook's encouraging words lingered in his mind. "You'll fit right in," he had said, his eyes sparkling with excitement. Taehyung knew he wasn't going to get away with a simple "no." After all, Jungkook had a way of wearing him down, bit by bit.
Finally, Taehyung picked up his phone and texted Jungkook: "Fine. I'll come. What time?"
The reply came almost instantly. "6 PM. Dress casually, okay? Don't want you showing up all CEO-like and intimidating my mom!"
Taehyung let out a small huff, trying not to smile at the playful tone of the message. He considered his closet, debating whether to take Jungkook's advice or show up in his usual suit just to mess with him. But in the end, he settled on a simple button-down shirt and jeans, something he rarely wore but that made him feel a little less formal.
As he drove to the Jeons' home, Taehyung couldn't shake the nervous energy building up inside him. It was one thing to handle Jungkook's teasing at work, but mingling with his family felt like an entirely different challenge. He wasn't sure how to behave in a setting where the focus wasn't on business or negotiations.
When he arrived at the Jeons' home, he found Jungkook waiting for him on the porch, a grin already forming on his lips. "You came! I was starting to think you'd chicken out."
"I don't 'chicken out,'" Taehyung replied, rolling his eyes but feeling a twinge of relief at seeing a familiar face. "I'm here, aren't I?"
Jungkook chuckled and gestured for him to follow. "Come on, let's introduce you to everyone. And remember, relax a little, will you? It's just dinner."
As they walked inside, Taehyung was greeted by the warmth of a cozy living room filled with laughter and the rich aroma of home-cooked food. Yoongi, Jungkook's older brother, stood by the kitchen, helping their mother set the table, while their father sat in an armchair, reading a newspaper.
"Mom, Dad, Yoongi-this is Kim Taehyung," Jungkook announced cheerfully. "He's the one I've been telling you about."
Yoongi glanced up from his task, a knowing smirk on his lips. "So, you're the CEO who's managed to keep Jungkook's attention all this time. I've been looking forward to meeting you."
Taehyung felt his ears heat up at the comment, unsure of how to respond. "Ah, yes, well... the pleasure is mine," he replied, trying to maintain his usual composed tone. But the smirk Yoongi sent his way made him feel like an open book.
Jungkook's mother, Mrs. Jeon, beamed at Taehyung as she approached with a welcoming smile. "It's so nice to meet you, Taehyung! I've heard a lot about you. Jungkook's been talking about you nonstop."
"Has he now?" Taehyung said, shooting a pointed look at Jungkook, who merely shrugged with an innocent smile.
"Oh, yes. He mentioned how beautiful you are," Mrs. Jeon continued, her smile turning warmer. "And I can see he wasn't exaggerating. You truly are a sight to behold!"
Taehyung nearly choked on air, his face turning a deep shade of red. "I-I don't think that's-"
"Oh, don't be modest," Mrs. Jeon insisted, reaching out to pat his arm gently. "You're absolutely stunning, and with a good heart, too. A perfect match for our Jungkook."
Taehyung's blush deepened, and he shot Jungkook a flustered glare, which only seemed to amuse him more. "I think there's a misunderstanding here," he tried to say, his voice barely above a whisper.
