As the night deepened, Taehyung and Jungkook settled into a new rhythm. The confession still hung in the air between them, even the smallest gestures-a brush of their hands as they cleared the table, the shy smiles they exchanged, and the way their eyes lingered just a little longer than before. After dinner, Taehyung insisted on doing the dishes, despite Jungkook's protests. "It's the least I can do," he mumbled, still feeling a little guilty about earlier. But as he begins to wash, he felt Jungkook's presence behind him, the warmth of the younger man's body radiating.
Jungkook leaned casually against the counter, crossing his arms as he watched Taehyung. "You know, I never imagined this is how we'd end up spending our evening," he mused, a smirk playing at the corner of his lips.
Taehyung rolled his eyes, trying to focus on scrubbing a particularly stubborn dish. "Well, neither did I. So stop staring and go relax or something."
"Why would I do that when I have such a perfect view right here?" Jungkook's voice dropped into that teasing tone that made Taehyung's skin prickle with anticipation. He moved closer, letting his chest brush against Taehyung's back, and leaned down to speak directly into his ear. "Besides, I can't help but think... you're kind of cute when you're focused like this."
Taehyung's hands faltered, and he nearly dropped the dish he was holding. His cheeks flushed as he tried to ignore the way Jungkook's breath tickled his ear, the heat of his body pressed against his back. "J-Jungkook," he stammered, turning his head slightly to glare at him. "I'm trying to work here."
Jungkook chuckled, the sound low. He didn't move away, though, and instead let his hand settle on Taehyung's waist, squeezing gently. "Yeah, yeah. But I'm going to keep you company. You don't mind, right?"
Taehyung let out a soft sigh, trying to focus on the task, but the warmth of Jungkook's touch and the proximity of his voice made it almost impossible. "You're impossible, you know that?"
"And you like me this way," Jungkook said smoothly, his lips curving into a grin that Taehyung could feel even without looking. "Admit it."
Taehyung's blush deepened, but he didn't trust himself to respond. Instead, he finished washing the last plate and quickly rinsed his hands, trying to escape Jungkook's hold. But before he could take a step, Jungkook's arms wrapped around his waist, pulling him back against his chest.
"You're not getting away that easily, Tae," Jungkook whispered, his tone turning more serious as he tightened his hold. "Not after tonight."
Taehyung froze, the seriousness in Jungkook's voice. Slowly, he turned around in the circle of Jungkook's arms, looking up at him. "Jungkook..."
Jungkook smiled down at him, his expression softening as he reached up to brush a stray strand of hair from Taehyung's forehead. "I'm not letting you go, Taehyung. Not anymore. So stop thinking you have to apologize or make up for anything. I'm right here, and I'm not going anywhere."
"I am all yours"
Taehyung's breath hitched, and he could feel his eyes welling up again, but this time, he didn't try to hide it. He let the tears fall, and Jungkook was there to catch them, his thumbs gently wiping them away as he held Taehyung's face between his hands.
They stood like that for a moment. And as Taehyung leaned into the touch, letting himself believe in this new beginning, he felt a weight lifting from his chest.
When they finally pulled away, Jungkook gave him a mischievous grin, the playful spark returning to his eyes. "Now, how about you go rest while I whip up a little surprise for dessert? Think of it as a thank-you for dinner."
Taehyung raised an eyebrow, a small smile tugging at his lips despite the emotions. "You can cook?"
Jungkook scoffed, pretending to be offended. "Hey, I can be pretty handy in the kitchen! Just wait, you'll see."
Taehyung laughed softly, the sound easing the last of the tension in the air. "Alright, I'll trust you-just this once. But no burning down the kitchen, okay?"
Jungkook winked at him, turning towards the fridge with a flourish. "No promises, but I'll try my best."
Taehyung shook his head, retreating to the living room to give Jungkook space. He sank into the couch, letting himself finally relax as he listened to the sound of Jungkook rummaging around in the kitchen. It was a simple, domestic scene, yet it filled him with a quiet contentment that he hadn't felt in a long time.
As he closed his eyes for a moment, he couldn't help but think that maybe, just maybe, things would be alright. With Jungkook by his side, Taehyung felt like he could handle whatever came next.
And as the sweet aroma of whatever Jungkook was preparing began to fill the air, Taehyung let a small smile curl at the edges of his lips, feeling a sense of peace settle over him.
Little did he know, the teasing wasn't over-not by a long shot. But for now, it was enough to just be here, together, sharing a moment that felt like the start of something new.
