Chapter 26: A Late-Night Challenge
As the game of rock-paper-scissors continued, Taehyung and Jungkook exchanged glances, the air between them filled with playful tension.
Jungkook's eyes glinted with mischief. "Ready to lose, Taehyung?"
Taehyung tried to keep his composure, though his cheeks were already warm. "You're way too confident for your own good, Jungkook. Let's just see who wins."
With a nod, they started counting down. "Rock, paper, scissors!" they said in unison, revealing their choices. Taehyung threw a rock while Jungkook's hand formed into a paper.
Jungkook broke into a triumphant grin, leaning closer to Taehyung with a satisfied smirk. "Looks like I win, Tae. You know what that means, right?"
Taehyung's heartbeat quickened, and he swallowed hard. "A deal's a deal," he muttered, trying to hide the nerves in his voice. Slowly, he leaned in, pressing a soft kiss to Jungkook's cheek, his face turning a deep shade of red.
But as he tried to pull away, Jungkook caught his wrist, his smile turning into something softer. "Not so fast," he said, tilting his head slightly, closing the distance between them.
Before Taehyung could react, Jungkook pressed a quick kiss to his lips, the touch feather-light and warm. The contact sent a jolt of electricity through Taehyung, leaving him breathless and wide-eyed.
"Jungkook!" Taehyung stammered, his voice coming out as a mix of a scold and a whisper. "That-that wasn't part of the deal!"
Jungkook just chuckled, releasing Taehyung's wrist and leaning back with a satisfied look. "Consider it a bonus, Tae. Besides, you look even cuter when you're flustered."
Taehyung hid his face in his hands, trying to cool down the blush that had spread from his cheeks all the way to his ears. He could feel Jungkook's gaze on him, warm and unyielding, and it only made his embarrassment worse.
"I really hate you sometimes," Taehyung mumbled from behind his hands.
"You mean you love me," Jungkook shot back confidently, crossing his arms as he leaned back against the couch, his smirk never fading.
Before Taehyung could respond, his phone buzzed in his pocket, cutting through the teasing moment. He fished it out, seeing that it was his mom calling. Clearing his throat, he answered, trying to keep his voice steady. "Hey, Mom."
On the other end of the line, his mother's warm voice filled the silence. "Hi, honey. Just checking in-did you make it to the Jeons' house okay?"
Taehyung glanced at Jungkook, who was watching him with an amused smile, clearly listening to every word. "Yeah, I'm here. Everything's fine," Taehyung replied, his tone softer now.
"That's good! I hope you're behaving yourself, Taehyung," his mother teased lightly. "And are you having fun with Jungkook?"
Taehyung's cheeks flushed again at her playful tone. "Mom!" he whined, his voice going up a pitch without him meaning to. "Don't tease me like that!"
From beside him, Jungkook's eyebrows lifted in amusement. He mouthed the word cute at Taehyung, making him scowl.
His mother laughed on the other end. "Oh, honey, I'm just glad to hear you're doing well. You don't sound so cold anymore. And give my regards to Mrs. Jeon, okay?"
"I will," Taehyung promised, glancing at Jieun, who was still chatting with her husband in the kitchen. "Goodnight, Mom."
"Goodnight, darling. Sweet dreams-and try not to think about Jungkook too much!" she added playfully before ending the call.
Taehyung's face turned even redder as he slipped his phone back into his pocket, avoiding Jungkook's amused gaze. "She's... she's just joking," he stammered, trying to explain himself, but Jungkook wasn't about to let him off the hook that easily.
"So, thinking about me, huh?" Jungkook's voice dropped, low and playful as he leaned in closer, his breath brushing against Taehyung's ear. "Does that mean you've been dreaming about me too?"
Taehyung tried to keep his cool, but his heart was hammering in his chest. He averted his eyes, his cheeks turning an even deeper shade of red. "I... I told you, she was just joking."
Jungkook wasn't about to let him off the hook so easily. Instead, he moved in, closing the small distance between them. Before Taehyung could react, Jungkook tilted his head and pressed his lips against Taehyung's, a kiss that lingered longer than the last.
Taehyung froze, his mind going blank at the sudden contact. The kiss was warm, gentle yet firm, and it sent a wave of heat through his entire body. He stood still, not knowing how to react, his hands awkwardly hovering in the air as Jungkook deepened the kiss just a little more.
When Jungkook finally pulled back, his face was still dangerously close, a smirk playing on his lips as he took in Taehyung's stunned expression. "What's the matter, Tae? Cat got your tongue?" he teased, his voice a low.d
Taehyung blinked, still processing what had just happened. He tried to find words, but they seemed to get tangled up in his throat. All he could do was stare at Jungkook, wide-eyed and flustered beyond belief.
Jungkook chuckled softly, his eyes twinkling with amusement. "You look cute when you're speechless. It's a nice change from your usual icy demeanor."
Taehyung finally managed to find his voice, though it was shaky. "Y-you're such a... a... ugh!" He buried his face in his hands, trying to hide the fact that he was practically glowing with embarrassment.
"Oh, come on now, no need to be shy," Jungkook continued, clearly enjoying every moment. "But it's getting late, and you look like you could use some rest." Before Taehyung could protest, Jungkook effortlessly scooped him up into his arms, holding him in a bridal carry.
"J-Jungkook! Put me down!" Taehyung stammered, clutching at Jungkook's shoulders instinctively. His face burned with embarrassment at being held like this.
But Jungkook just grinned down at him, enjoying the way Taehyung clung to him. "No can do. I'm taking you to bed, Mr. CEO," he said cheekily. He pretended to consider for a moment, his eyes twinkling with mischief. "Oh, I'm going to put you in the guest room... but oops, looks like it's unavailable. Guess you'll have to sleep in my room tonight."
Taehyung's eyes widened, his mind racing. "W-wait, that's not fair! You planned this, didn't you?"
Jungkook's smirk widened, and he gave a playful wink. "Maybe I did. But you don't seem too mad about it," he teased, adjusting his hold on Taehyung and starting to walk toward the stairs.
Taehyung tried to wriggle out of Jungkook's grip, but he quickly realized that he didn't have the strength to do so. Instead, he resigned himself to his fate, though he kept his hands pressed against Jungkook's chest to maintain a little distance. "You're impossible," he muttered, flustered.
Jungkook just laughed softly, carrying him up the stairs with ease. "Yeah, but you like it," he said, his tone playful but with a hint of sincerity that made Taehyung's heart skip a beat.
By the time they reached the doorway to Jungkook's room, Taehyung's cheeks were still burning, and he couldn't bring himself to meet Jungkook's gaze. Jungkook nudged the door open with his foot and carried Taehyung inside, setting him down gently on the edge of the bed.
"There you go," Jungkook said with a satisfied smile. "Make yourself comfortable, Tae. You're in for a night of sweet dreams-with me right by your side."
Taehyung's face turned an even deeper shade of red, and he buried his face in his hands again, feeling utterly flustered and completely out of his element. But beneath all the embarrassment, there was a small, undeniable warmth blooming in his chest, a feeling he was slowly starting to recognize.
As Jungkook settled beside him, the teasing smirk never quite leaving his lips, Taehyung couldn't help but think that maybe he didn't mind the way things were turning out after all.
