Chapter 21

Every day passed the same during Easter break, Alexis would get up and have breakfast. Then she would spend until lunch helping Draco study. After lunch, they would just spend time talking and enjoying each other's company. Then more studying after supper. Most nights she went back to her own room to sleep but she had fallen asleep in Draco's room Tuesday night after a late night of studying. Everything was peaceful as if the world outside her routine had disappeared.

After breakfast, she went to Draco's room but something had changed since breakfast. When Draco opened the door he seemed very distressed. "Is everything okay," she asked him as he pulled her inside.

"I need to tell you something but I need you to believe that I had nothing to do with it okay," he pulled her over to the window seat waiting for her response.

"Okay, I believe you. What is it Draco? you're making me nervous," she told him as he paced back and forth in front of her.

He took a deep breath and sat down in front of her, "The Dark Lord asked me over Christmas to watch Mattheo and see if I could learn something to help bring him over to his father's side. I didn't want to but he threatened my mother. I originally followed you up to the tower that day to see if I could learn anything from you. But after we talked I didn't want to use you. I never told anyone about this, about us but somehow You-Know-Who found out, and my father sent me this letter."

She took the letter from his hand and read what his father had sent.

Draco,

The Dark Lord was pleased to hear that you managed to romance Mattheo's girlfriend. This will make it so much easier to bring him to our side. Keep up the good work, we are so proud of you.
                           -Lucius

Alexis stared at the letter and then looked up into Draco's eyes. She saw the desperation there, if he was involved why would he show her the letter? He could have burned it and she would never have known any different.

"I believe you, but who could have told them? It's not like we walk around flaunting it." She sat back against the wall looking to Draco for any sort of information.

"I honestly don't know darling, there are plenty of students who have Death Eater parents. It could be any one of them," he reached out taking her hand. "We'll figure it out, but if whoever told the Dark Lord tells Mattheo there is no telling how he will react to the news."

"I'll figure out a way to tell him. He'll be angry but maybe if the news comes from me he won't be angry enough to join his father." She shrugged before moving over to lay her head on his chest. Neither felt like studying as they lay in each other's arms staring out into the water of The Black Lake. Preferring instead to enjoy the company of the only person who truly brought them peace.

"I should head to lunch, I promised Theo I'd eat with them. I guess Mattheo is too busy for lunch today," She told him as she headed for the door. Draco's arm snaked around her waist pulling her back. "Not so fast, I don't even get a proper goodbye?" He gave her a cheeky grin as he pulled her against his chest. A smile grew across her face as he leaned in and warmth spread through her. She coiled her arms around her neck stretching up on her tiptoes to deepen the kiss. As the two relaxed melting into each other, the blue flame softly burned around them.

Alexis finally pulled herself away and walked down the stairs to meet her friends in the Great Hall. She grinned broadly as she saw them joking and laughing as she sat down across from them.

"Look Enzo it's the elusive Alexis, rarely seen in the wild anymore," Theo teased her with a smile and a wink. Enzo joined in not wanting to be left out, "Yes this rare species, once a common sight in these parts has secluded itself into obscurity."
