Jayden (POV):
Sweat beaded on my forehead as I dodged the blade that just missed my face by less than an inch. Adrenaline pumped through my veins as I continued to dodge the sword's sharp blade. It was another day of training, well most of my days were filled with training. Not that I'm complaining, I absolutely loved training. The feeling of power that rushed through my veins as I spared against my opponent was thrilling. It had been the one thing in my life that I excelled at.
"Holy fuck Jay! We are just sparring, not trying to kill each other!" Kellan yelped as my sword grazed his cheek and the thin line of blood beaded on his skin.
Kellan was my best friend as well as the current commander of my mum's army. His father had been the commander of my mum's army prior to him taking over. Kellan came from a long line of commanders so it wasn't surprising that he followed in his fathers footsteps. Kellan also happened to be the first person to speak to me at school. For the most part the other kids kept their distance. Mainly because I was the Queen's daughter, which apparently was quite intimidating. Kellan on the other hand had no problem approaching me and we quickly became close friends. Most days you could find us together, we even trained together.
Kellan was a couple years older than me but his skills in combat were quite impressive. Kellan had been training to be a soldier for as long as he could hold a sword. He had become so skilled with a sword it was basically just an extension of his body. Every soldier in our ranks had trouble fending him off, which is why he was the obvious choice to be the next commander. However I was quickly catching up to him in skill and even Kellan himself had a hard time fending me off.
"So are you going to give up now?" I said with a smirk as I held the tip of my blade to his throat.
"Fine but you are only this good because of me just remember that little one" He said with a huff.
"I'm not so sure you can call me little one anymore" I said, bumping our shoulders together.
Over the last summer I had quite the growth spurt making me one of the tallest people here. Kellan was just a couple inches shorter than me but what he lacked in height he made up in pure muscle. It was crazy to think he was only 20.
"You may be taller than me but you will always be my little sister" He said, patting me on the back.
Honestly I couldn't comprehend how lucky I was to have such an amazing friend as Kellan. He was the closest thing I had to a brother and quite honestly I saw him more as a brother than my friend. Just as we were tidying up our equipment the doors on the other side of the arena opened.
"How's training going sweetheart?" My mum said as she made her way towards us.
"Oh you know just kicking Kellan's ass the usual" I shrugged casually.
"Fucking bitch" Kellan mumbled under his breath.
"Did you say something Kellan? I didn't quite catch that." I smirked.
"Remind me how old you two are again?" My mum chuckled as we finished clearing the rest of our things.
"What brings you down here mum?"
"We have a guest coming and I just wanted to let you know before they arrive." Mum said as she sat down on one of the benches.
"A guest?" I raised a brow in surprise.
One thing you need to know about my mum is that she never had guests come here. My mum is a very private person, it's one of the reasons our inner circle is so small. Other than Kellan and I the only other people she confided in were Wren (her second in command), Wren's mate Lily, Victor (Kellan's second in command), Seth (our head doctor) and Sophie her mate. Sophie was actually new to our pack; they had only met a couple years ago. My mum met her while she was off doing business with one of the vampire clans. She was one of the sweetest people I had ever met, not to mention she was stunning. Sophie was one of a handful of vampires that had joined our kingdom throughout the years. After only a few short months I already saw her as my second mom.
