Jayden (POV):
I paced around the foyer as I waited for my mum to return with Aurora. It had been a little over 15 minutes since she had left and I was starting to get a little uneasy. Going to escort our new doctor back here shouldn't take that long. Seeing as they were literally meeting just outside the castle gates. It should have only taken her a few moments to retrieve her. Plus technically speaking mum wasn't supposed to set foot outside the barrier and neither was I. Only our military or Wren went across the barrier if needed. The only exception to that rule is if Mum was needed for business and even then she travelled with Wren and Sophie along with a full military escort. The sound of footsteps made me stop and turn towards the sound.
"Why do you look so nervous?" Kellan chuckled as he crossed the foyer towards me.
"I'm not nervous." I replied as I stopped pacing.
"Uh huh that's why you are pacing back and forth like a caged animal?" Kellan folded his arms across his chest with a smug look on his face.
"Ugh why'd it have to be you to walk in on me? Why couldn't it be Seth? At least he's nicer than you." I grumbled.
"Ouch you cut me deep Jay" Kellan says with an over exaggerated expression as he falls back into the wall and slumps down it.
"But really what is it that's got you so nervous?" He said, peeking up at me before standing.
"Honestly I don't know. I just have this weird feeling that something is going to happen. Well that and we haven't ever had someone come to work here that wasn't someone's mate. I mean except for Victor but he's kind of the exception to the rule."
Victor was from Sophie's clan, and had come to live with us after her and my mum had mated. Victor had been keeping Sophie safe within their clan before her and my mum had met. Sophie had been the last unmated female vampire within her clan which was why Victor protected her. Victor had grown up with Sophie and he had vowed to serve her for all of eternity, so Sophie and Victor ended up being a package deal. Not that anyone cared Victor was a very skilled warrior and had helped our soldiers with combat training. Victor and Kellan are the only reason our army is so skilled at what they do.
"Technically she's not an outsider, she's worked with your mum before." Kellan said while giving my shoulder a squeeze.
"I know, I know I'm just not used to it I guess. I'm not great at the whole meeting new people thing, it's kind of stressful to be honest." I spoke nervously as I fidgeted with my fingers.
"You'll do fine I promise, plus you literally only need to greet her. It's not like you have to hang out with her if you don't want to." Kellan shrugged.
He was right there was no reason to get myself all stressed out about nothing. There was however the smallest part of me that hoped we would get along. There weren't very many women or men for that matter who would talk to me, mostly because of who my mum is. Kellan had said it's probably because they were jealous, which honestly made no sense to me. I didn't see myself as some drop dead gorgeous woman. In all honesty I didn't find myself all that attractive, not that I would voice that out loud. Since the last time I had it resulted in both Kellan and Seth giving me a long speech about how amazing I am.
"Yeah you're right. Also why are you here? I thought you and Seth had a mini vacation planned for the next few days."
"We do but your mum wanted Seth and I to meet Aurora before we left." He shrugged.
"So where is Seth then?" I quirked my eyebrow at him.
"Let's just say I may or may not have turned his alarm clock off this morning" A devious smile pulled at the corner of Kellan's lips.
