JANUARY 2024 — MELBOURNE, AUSTRALIA

"Do you have to go?" Mae Piastri questioned.

Leilani Kahulia gave the younger girl a hug, smiling as Mae tightened her group while complaining about them leaving so soon. They'd been there for two weeks, Leilani wouldn't have called it 'too soon' but she had rather enjoyed the company of the family.

"Leila's got to see her grandparents!" Hattie pointed out. "But you're cool, we like you. Oscar needs to make sure he brings you back."

'Leila' had been the name that the three girls had given her since it seemed 'Lani' was Oscar's nickname and wanted their own. Hattie had bonded with Leilani more than Mae and Edie but the three had been incredibly kind to the Hawaiian.

"Don't squeeze her to death, Mae," Nicole chuckled before Mae released the hug.

"You will be back though, right?" Edie pressed.

"If you'll have me," Leilani replied sheepishly.

"You're welcome here any day and we expect to see you at the Australian Grand Prix," Nicole insisted, giving her a hug too. "Oscar, why don't you go load the car?"

Oscar nodded, moving to place their suitcases in the car as Leilani stayed behind with Nicole. She wouldn't be able to help even if she wanted to; Nicole hadn't released her from the hug.

"Thank you for letting me spend Christmas here," Leilani mumbled into her shoulder.

"That boy dotes on you, know that," Nicole said quietly, breaking the hug but leaving her hands on Leilani's shoulders. "He worries for you because you mean a lot to him. Don't feel about it, okay?"

Leilani gave her a confused nod, not quite understanding why it had been brought up but she had a feeling they were trying to tell her something considering Hattie was nodding thoughtfully behind her mother. Leilani shook it off anyway.

"Just make sure you tell him if something is wrong," Nicole added kindly.

"Yeah, I will," Leilani replied, though she didn't sound convincing.

"Really, he won't do anything other than what you want him to," Nicole continued, taking her hands from Leilani's shoulders. "It's been lovely having you here, make sure you come back."
