ᴺᴼᵂ ᴾᴸᴬᵞᴵᴺᴳ : Are you with me?
"I wanna dance by water 'neath the Mexican sky
Drink some Margaritas by a string of blue lights"
Leilani Kahulia was happy.
Not the kind of 'happy' she had when she was just 'not sad' but the type were she wanted to be alive. The type that made you glad you rolled out of bed into the cool air and got on with the day. She was glad for that.
She wasn't sure how long she'd stay that way far as her moods often dropped as much as they went up but she was glad she'd made sure Oscar knew her feelings towards him. Oscar made Leilani happy and she knew it was the right thing to tell him.
"You know, that flight wasn't the worst," Leilani commented as they walked through the airport.
"You were asleep through half of it—"
"Exactly!" Leilani grinned. "If I'm asleep, it's a miracle. Must be a good flight, don't complain."
"I'm not," Oscar held his hands up in defence.
Oscar Piastri observed how much better Leilani seemed to be since having the burden of her Grandparent's financial blackmail removed. Of course, he knew somethings couldn't disappear over night but she seemed far more stable than a week ago. He hoped she would be happy with him there too. He was glad she felt the same way as he did and even better that she was able to tell him with a stable mind.
"I nearly didn't agree to come," Leilani admitted. "I've got a lot of uni work and stress...but Miya said I should and you clearly were desperate to have me here."
Leilani gave him a teasing grin and Oscar returned it with a kind smile. She fell silent as they made their way through the airport, including a few pictures with fans that Leilani stayed away from.
"Sorry," Oscar apologised referring to the fans.
"No, No. It's right that you acknowledged them," Leilani replied. "There'd be no sport without them. Who would cheer you on? You can't just have your parents, sisters and me in the Grandstand."
"True," Oscar chuckled, lightly taking her hand in his. "I'm going to apologise in advance for my mum and sisters."
"Why?" Leilani glanced at him suspiciously. "What did you say?"
"Nothing bad—"
"Oscar," Leilani paused. "Did you tell them I was your girlfriend?"
Girlfriend. The dictionary says it's 'a person's regular female companion with whom they have a romantic or sexual relationship.' In Leilani's case, it felt more like she was Oscar's best friend who decided she had some extra feelings for him that deserved to be shared. She wasn't too bothered about the word but Oscar had plucked up the courage to ask on their way to the airport and she couldn't resist him.
Was the becoming a pushover? No. Was this moving too fast? Also No.
They'd been friends for so many years that Leilani didn't feel like much would change in their lives. She'd always enjoyed the small comforts Oscar gave her, from hugs to letting her fall asleep on his shoulder — that wouldn't change. She'd just gain some more bonuses. She wouldn't lie, it did intrigue her in what Oscar was like within a relationship.
Leilani knew Oscar didn't need her but she needed Oscar.
They were staying at a hotel near the track. It was important for Oscar to have a completely peaceful place to go back to that was close — though Leilani knew it must be weird knowing he grew up just fifteen minutes away. She knew the race was important to him.
"Lani, if you don't want to be all over social media, we don't have to tell anyone we're together," said Oscar kindly as they got to the hotel room. "It can be a little much."
"I'm all over social media anyway. People saw you on campus with me a few months back," Leilani shrugged. "Besides, I'd rather hold your hand so I don't get lost."
"You aren't going to get lost, Lani," Oscar chuckled. "Just look for the McLaren logos."
"I'll get lost. My spacial awareness sucks."
"Okay, okay, you can hold my hand then," Oscar smiled. "Then just stay with my mum during sessions. You can stay with her tomorrow while I'm going the media if you want.
Leilani nodded and with a yawn, she collapsed on the bed. She wasn't sure how she was so tired after a flight asleep, she assumed it was the jet lag.

Leilani adored Nicole Piastri.
She was an icon in many way — though was most known from her replies on twitter that Leilani couldn't help but laugh at. She was a good person who cared a lot about her children. Leilani adored that.
The two of them, along with Oscar's sisters, had breakfast together in the hotel. They were sat out of the way to avoid to much attention. As they enjoyed breakfast together, the conversation turned to Oscar. Leilani had been warned about this.
"So, how are you and Oscar doing?" Nicole asked, a twinkle in her eye.
"I know he told you," Leilani replied with a smile.
"He did," Hattie added.
"We're glad about it, we like you," Edie added.
Leilani chuckled the three sisters all gave her bright expressions. She wasn't sure how they'd already grown to like her so much, they'd barely spent a week together. Clearly, Leilani had just clicked with he family.
Nicole leaned forward, her expression playful. "Well, if you two are going to be all lovey-dovey now, when's the wedding?"
Leilani's eyes widened in surprised, not knowing what to say.
"I'm just joking!" Nicole replied, her laughter infectious. "But seriously, I've always thought you two would make a lovely couple. Oscar has always had a soft spot for you."
Leilani beamed at Nicole's words, feeling grateful not only for Oscar but for the warmth and acceptance of his family.
"He tells us all the time," Edie added dramatically. "It's cute."
"Yeah," Leilani whispered, more to herself.
They continued chatting, finishing breakfast with laughter and Leilani stayed in her small bubble of happiness.
