SECRETS

The Castle of Lions had plenty of places to hide. After all, it wasn't just a battle fortress; it was practically a maze with secret rooms and winding corridors that stretched through the ship. You and Pidge had gotten good at finding the quietest corners, especially after the two of you had decided to keep your relationship a secret.

It wasn't that you didn't trust the others—you knew the team would support you—but both you and Pidge agreed that your relationship felt... special. Private. Something just for the two of you to hold onto in the chaos of being part of Voltron. Plus, you both kind of enjoyed the thrill of sneaking around.

Which is why, tonight, you were tucked away in one of the smaller storage rooms near the back of the ship, hidden from view. The room was dimly lit by the soft glow of a nearby panel, just enough for you to see Pidge's face as she leaned against your shoulder, her legs stretched out beside yours.

"Okay, so... maybe hiding here wasn't the best idea," Pidge murmured, glancing up at you with a mischievous glint in her eyes. She was smiling though, clearly not too upset about it.

You chuckled softly, shifting slightly so you could face her. "Hey, it's pretty quiet here. No one's found us yet, right?"

"True," Pidge replied, a small smirk tugging at her lips. "But this is still technically a storage room. What if Coran comes looking for something?"

You shrugged, not really worried. "Then we'll make an excuse and slip out. We've done it before." You nudged her gently with your shoulder. "Plus, I think Coran would be too weirded out by our 'special project' to ask questions."

Pidge snorted at that, clearly amused by the memory. The two of you had used the "special project" excuse more times than you could count, each time more ridiculous than the last. It was becoming a running joke between you, but so far, it had kept everyone from getting suspicious.

Still, even though the secrecy could be fun, you sometimes wondered how it would feel to not have to hide—to be able to walk through the castle hand-in-hand with Pidge, or sit beside her during meals without worrying about giving anything away. You didn't mind keeping your relationship between the two of you for now, but... part of you also wanted to share it with the people you cared about.

Pidge shifted beside you, tilting her head up to look at you more closely. "You okay?" she asked, her voice softer now, a hint of concern in her tone.

You blinked, realizing you'd gotten lost in your thoughts. "Yeah," you said quickly, offering her a reassuring smile. "Just thinking about how long we can keep this up."

Pidge raised an eyebrow. "You mean the whole 'sneaking around' thing?"

"Yeah," you admitted. "I mean, I don't mind it, but... don't you ever wonder what it would be like if we didn't have to hide? If we could just tell the others?"

Pidge seemed to consider this for a moment, her eyes flickering with thought. Then, she shrugged lightly. "I guess I haven't really thought about it too much. I like having this—just for us, you know? But..." She paused, glancing at you more carefully. "If you want to tell them, we can. I don't mind."

Your heart warmed at her words. She was always like this—thinking things through logically, but also caring about what you wanted. It was one of the many things you loved about her.

You reached out and gently took her hand, squeezing it lightly. "I don't want to rush anything. I like what we have, too. But maybe... we could think about it, eventually."

Pidge smiled, leaning into you again as she rested her head against your shoulder. "Okay. We'll figure it out when we're ready." She laced her fingers through yours, her touch warm and familiar. "But for now, I think we're doing pretty well at being secret girlfriends. Don't you?"

You grinned, feeling the warmth of her hand in yours, and nodded. "Yeah. I think we're doing pretty great."

The two of you sat in comfortable silence for a while, your hands still intertwined, the soft hum of the castle ship filling the air. There was something peaceful about these quiet moments with Pidge—moments where the rest of the universe faded away, leaving just the two of you. Even with the constant pressure of being part of Voltron and fighting against the Galra, these stolen moments were like little pockets of happiness.

But just as you were beginning to relax fully into the moment, you heard the unmistakable sound of footsteps approaching from the hallway. You and Pidge both froze, your eyes locking onto each other in panic.

"Is that—" Pidge started, but before she could finish, you both scrambled to your feet, frantically trying to make it look like you were doing anything other than hiding out together.

The door to the storage room slid open, and sure enough, Coran appeared in the doorway, his usual enthusiastic grin plastered on his face. "Ah, there you two are!" he exclaimed, not even noticing the slight awkwardness of the scene. "I've been looking all over for you!"

You shot Pidge a quick glance, silently begging her to come up with an excuse. Luckily, she was always quick on her feet.

"Uh, yeah, we were just... recalibrating the communications equipment," Pidge said, nodding toward her tablet, which she'd hastily grabbed. "It's part of our... special project."

Coran's eyes lit up with excitement, completely buying the excuse. "Oh, brilliant! You young people and your technological wonders! Well, don't let me interrupt. I just came to let you know dinner's ready."

"Thanks, Coran," you said, trying to keep your voice steady. "We'll be there in a minute."

Coran gave a thumbs-up before disappearing back down the hallway, leaving the two of you alone once more. You let out a long breath, slumping against the wall in relief.

"That was close," Pidge muttered, a smile tugging at her lips as she put her tablet down.

"Too close," you agreed, but you couldn't help but laugh. The adrenaline rush from nearly being caught was still pulsing through you, but it only added to the excitement of it all.

Pidge stepped closer, her mischievous smile growing as she reached up to gently tug at your sleeve. "Come on. We should probably head to dinner before Coran comes back and gets suspicious."

You grinned, nodding as you took her hand. "Yeah, let's go."

And with that, the two of you walked out of the storage room, back into the chaos of your everyday lives aboard the Castle of Lions. But even as you rejoined the rest of the team, sneaking glances at Pidge across the table, you knew that no matter how long you kept your relationship a secret, it would always be your favorite part of the day.
