The halls of the Castle of Lions were unusually quiet. Normally, the buzz of the team preparing for another mission, the clanking of weapons or the constant chatter of Allura and Coran would echo through the corridors. But tonight, the only sound was the faint hum of the ship and the distant twinkling of stars visible through the windows.
Pidge, the brilliant, sarcastic, and fiercely independent Paladin of the Green Lion, sat at her console in the tech bay, buried in data. Her glasses slid down the bridge of her nose as she focused intently on the screen, fingers typing quickly, decoding yet another encrypted Galra transmission.
You stood in the doorway, watching her work, a small smile tugging at your lips. There was something about the way Pidge worked — her unwavering focus, the slight furrow in her brow, the way her honey brown eyes sparkled in the dim glow of her workstation — that always made your heart skip a beat. She was intelligent, resourceful, and beneath the sarcasm, caring in a way that felt so rare.
You cleared your throat softly, and Pidge's head snapped up, startled.
"Oh, hey," she said, adjusting her glasses and offering you a small smile. "What are you doing up this late?"
"I could ask you the same thing," you replied, stepping into the room. "It's not healthy to stay cooped up here for hours, you know?"
Pidge let out a quiet laugh. "I'm close to cracking this Galra encryption. Just one more hour, and—"
You shook your head and interrupted her with a playful grin. "Nope, you've been saying 'one more hour' for three days now. Come on, Katie, you need a break."
At the sound of her real name, Pidge's expression softened. You were one of the few people she allowed to call her that, a sign of the trust and bond you'd built over time.
"Fine," she sighed dramatically, pushing away from the console. "But only because you said 'please.'"
You chuckled, closing the distance between you two. "I didn't say please."
"You were going to," she teased, standing up from her chair.
The close proximity between you made the air feel different, electric. You could smell the faint scent of the oil she always used for her gadgets, mixed with the subtle sweetness of her skin. She looked up at you, green eyes glinting with mischief.
Your heart raced. You had been friends for so long, partners in this endless war against the Galra, but somewhere along the way, your feelings for Pidge had grown beyond just friendship. There was a deep longing you tried to keep at bay, knowing how focused she was on her mission, her family, and the fight for freedom.
But tonight, something felt different. There was a vulnerability in her gaze, a quiet invitation.
"You know," she began, her voice softer now, "I've been thinking... about us."
Her words sent a rush of warmth through your chest. "What about us?"
Pidge hesitated for a moment, then reached out, her small hand resting on your forearm. "I've been so focused on my mission that I didn't realize how much I've come to care about you. More than I expected. More than I've let myself admit."
You swallowed hard, trying to steady your racing pulse. "Katie..."
Before you could say more, Pidge took a step closer, her lips hovering just inches from yours. The tension in the room was palpable, and your breath hitched as you felt the warmth of her body so close to yours.
"Tell me I'm not imagining this," Pidge whispered, her voice barely audible. "Tell me you feel it too."
Your heart pounded in your chest. You'd been waiting for this moment, for the right time to confess what you'd been feeling for so long. Without thinking, you reached out and cupped her cheek, your thumb brushing against her skin.
"I've wanted this for so long," you murmured, your voice shaky with emotion. "But I didn't want to push you, especially with everything that's going on."
Pidge let out a breath she'd been holding, her eyes closing for a brief second before she leaned in. "I don't care about that right now," she whispered, her lips brushing against yours. "I just want you."
And then, her lips were on yours. The kiss was soft at first, tentative, but it quickly deepened as the hunger between you grew. You wrapped your arms around her waist, pulling her closer, feeling the warmth of her body against yours. Pidge's hands tangled in your hair, pulling you in with surprising strength for someone so small.
You broke the kiss just long enough to whisper, "Are you sure about this?"
Pidge smirked up at you, eyes alight with desire. "I'm sure," she said, her voice breathy. "Now shut up and kiss me."
You laughed softly, but the sound was quickly swallowed by another kiss, this one more passionate, more urgent. Your hands roamed her body, feeling the slight tremble in her frame as you slid your fingers under her shirt, brushing against the soft skin of her back.
Pidge let out a soft moan, her fingers gripping your shoulders as she pressed herself against you. You couldn't help but smile into the kiss, loving the way she melted in your arms, her usual sharp wit and confidence giving way to vulnerability and desire.
The two of you stumbled back, the edge of the console digging into your hip as Pidge climbed onto it, pulling you closer. Her legs wrapped around your waist, and the heat between you became unbearable.
"I've wanted this for so long," Pidge breathed against your lips, her hands tugging at your clothes. "Don't stop."
You didn't need to be told twice. Your hands moved with purpose, pulling at the fabric between you until nothing stood in the way, the cool air of the tech bay contrasting with the heat of your bodies.
Pidge gasped as your lips trailed down her neck, her fingers digging into your skin. "You have no idea how long I've waited for this," she whispered, her breath hitching as your hands roamed lower.
The night stretched on, filled with soft gasps, whispered names, and the quiet hum of the Castle of Lions. And when it was over, the two of you lay tangled together, breathless and sated.
Pidge smiled lazily up at you, her hair a mess and her glasses long discarded on the floor. "I think I can take a break from the mission for a while," she said, her voice teasing but filled with warmth.
You chuckled, brushing a stray strand of hair from her face. "Good, because I'm not going anywhere."
And for the first time in a long while, Pidge seemed completely at peace, lying in your arms as the stars outside the window twinkled softly, the universe quiet for just a little while longer.
