The mission was simple—or at least, it was supposed to be. A quick recon, gather data, avoid detection, and get out. But of course, things were never that easy when you were working with Pidge. Not because she wasn't capable—on the contrary, she was more than brilliant—but the two of you together often stirred up something... unexpected.

And that tension had been simmering for months now.

The two of you crouched in the shadow of a massive rock formation on a foreign planet, the sky above swirling with deep purple clouds. The environment around you was quiet, eerily so, and every small movement felt amplified by the silence. You could hear your own heartbeat, the rush of blood in your ears as you tried to focus on the mission—but your mind kept drifting back to Pidge.

She was beside you, so close you could feel the warmth radiating from her. You had been paired up for countless missions, and normally, your focus was impeccable. But today, it was different. Maybe it was the way she had been looking at you lately, or the way her voice had dropped lower when she gave you instructions. Or maybe it was the fleeting touches that seemed to linger longer than they should.

Whatever it was, it was distracting.

"We're clear for now," Pidge whispered, her voice barely audible over the soft hum of the planet's atmosphere. She was scanning the area ahead with her wrist device, her sharp brown eyes flicking back and forth as she processed the data.

You nodded, keeping your breathing steady, trying to ignore the way your skin tingled whenever she was near. It was almost maddening, how just being close to her set your senses on fire. But you knew better than to act on it—not in the middle of a mission. Not when everything was so delicate.

"Alright," Pidge continued, glancing at you with that same intensity you had grown used to. "We need to move quickly. There's a gap in their patrol, but it won't last long."

You swallowed hard, nodding again, but the words that left your mouth were uncharacteristically shaky. "Got it."

Pidge raised an eyebrow at you, a small smirk tugging at the corner of her lips as she picked up on the slight tremor in your voice. "You okay? You seem... tense."

Tense didn't even begin to cover it.

You cleared your throat, forcing a steady breath. "I'm fine. Just... focused."

She let out a soft hum, clearly not convinced, but didn't push it. Instead, she turned her attention back to the device, moving to lead the way. You followed closely behind, your eyes scanning the landscape ahead, but your thoughts were a chaotic mess of unspoken desire and restraint.

As you moved through the jagged terrain, you couldn't help but admire the way Pidge moved—so agile, so precise. Every step she took was deliberate, calculated, and you found yourself drawn to her in ways that went far beyond the admiration of her skills. It was everything about her—the way she could make you laugh, the way her mind worked faster than anyone else's, the way she would look at you sometimes with that unreadable expression that made your stomach twist in knots.

You tried to focus on the mission, but your thoughts kept slipping back to her. To the tension that had been building between you for months, unspoken but always there, simmering just beneath the surface.
