ACT I : TWO
ladies first
Elin and Astrid loved riding early in the morning, especially when they did it together. They weren't blood sisters, but they had grown up together. Eight years was the age difference, so Astrid was like a little sister to Elin.
«I won!» Astrid exclaimed with a big smile on her face. On the way home, they always competed to see who was the fastest between them. It was a little game they had started when they were younger, but it was fun and they decided to do it every time.
«You did it this time. But what's the count?»«You have more experience than me. I need more practice.» Astrid tried to justify herself, but all she got from Elin is giggle. Sometimes she liked to tease her. Astrid was just a kid and sometimes Elin decided to let her win.
«You're late.» Brida said when she saw them arrive to the town. Astrid looked down at the ground as Elin stood face to face with Brida.
«I know and I'm sorry.»But that answer was not enough for Brida. Ragnar and her saved Elin from men who wanted to kill her, and now they were protecting her from her past. Elin needed to understand the gravity of the situation. «If Ragnar found out that you rided alone, he...»
«I wasn't alone.» Elin interrupted Brida, pointing at Astrid. She was right, she wasn't alone. But she also knew that Brida was right too. If something happened, Elin and Astrid would not be able to save themselves without help.
«You know what I mean.»«He's not my father.» Elin snorted, rolling her eyes. Brida was right, but she was tired of hearing the same thing over and over again. After everything that happened, they were so protective of her.
«But he loves you like a brother. And he cares about you.»«I know, but I can't stay here forever.» Elin said, as she watched Astrid walk away. Her friend was probably going to her father, but she had to train with Brida. The Danish woman helped her to improve her defence and offence whenever she had the chance.
«He promised you that he would help you to find a solution. We promised that.» Brida grabbed her arm, forcing her to stop what she was doing. In fact, after talking, Elin decided to find something to do rather than look at Brida.
After those words, they started training. When Elin arrived, she couldn't even pick up a sword. Thanks to Brida and Ragnar, she learned to fight. Elin had still a lot to learn, but she had proved to be a quick learner.
«Brida!» Astrid suddenly stopped their training, running towards them. «My dad wants to talk to you.» the little girl said, looking at her mother-in-law.
«Astrid, take my place.» Brida said, handing her the sword she had used against Elin easier. «Today you and Elin will train together.» she said, before leaving them to go to Ragnar. Elin and Asteid looked at each other, a smile coming out from their face.
