Sophia’s POV

Jenny and I stepped back into the house and I paused, noticing that something was off. It didn’t take long for me to notice it. To notice the guy blending in the shadows, watching us. It was one of Ian’s men. The men he had told to be watching our every move. That was their specialty, blending into the shadows and watching us as if that was what they were created to do.

But the strange thing was that he was inside the house. They have never been into the house before and…whk invited them in?

My brows creased as I tried to remember who must have invited him in then I realized it had to be Jenny. Jenny had invited one of them in once, when we were moving here. He must have been the one. But that didn’t give him the rifjt to just come in here anytime he wanted without our permission. What was he doing here?

“What do you want?” I demanded but got no reply. Jenny halted on the stairs and turned around to look at me with a puzzled look.

“What are youztalking about?” She asked. “Who are you talking to?”

I looked away from her and back to the guh blending in the shadows. “Answer me. I know you know I’ve seen you and it’s really not making sense that you keep staring at me like that and not replying me.”

He remained in the shadows but he moved slightly. And then he stepped out of the shadows fully. “Miss,” he acknowledged.

Jenny jumped. “Jesus!” She screeched. “How did you know he was there?”

“I saw him,” I answered flatly and turned back to him, narrowing my eyes. “What are you doing here?”

“His Grace-“ he began but I cut him off.

“Ian?” I demanded.

“Yes. He instructed me to stay here and keep an eye on you when you come back,” he answered. “You’re not allowed to leave the house without any supervision from me or any of the others.”

But it wasn’t what he was saying that caught my attention. It was the fact that Ian was here and yet he didn’t wait for me to get back before he left. He came here and he didn’t bother to wait to see me.

“He was here?” I asked quietly, my whole body going still. The guy nodded I’m confirmation.

“Yes, miss,” he answered with a nod of his head and I just narrowed my eyes.

“Get out,” I ordered through gritted teeth before I could spiral and take out my anger on him.

“Miss-“ he began but I took a step towards him.

“You heard me. Get out,” I snapped.

“I’m sorry, Miss, but his grace ordered me to not leave you alone no matter what,” he murmured in reply. I took another step forward but Jenny’s voice stopped me.

“Leave him, Soph,” she said softly. I didn’t even realize that she was standing behind me now. “He’s just going his job. It’s not his fault.”

“Who the fuck does he think he is to have a fucking guard monitor our every move?” I seethed, but that wasn’t even what I was angry about. I was angry at him, yes. But not about that. I was angry at the fact that he was so angry with me that he didn’t even wait for find out if we had left by ourselves…if I had left by myself or someone else had come to take us away from here. If I was in danger.

“Let’s go up,” she told me in the same soft voice, taking my hand and leading me up the stairs. I looked at her and blinked back the tears that I didn’t know was welling up in my eyes and nodded.

The moment we got into my room, I broke down, waking to my bed slowly and slumping down on it while I covered my face with my palms. I shouldn’t be breaking down like this but I couldn’t help it.

“Soph?” Jenny asked in a concerned tome as she rushed over to the bed and took me in her arms.

“I’m so fucking done with him,” I cried. “I’m so fucking done with him. I hate him. I hate him so damn much!”

“Hey. Hey it’s okay,” she said in a quiet time, rubbing my back in a soothing manner but it only made me cry harder.

“No it’s not,” I replied, shaking my head vigorously. “He didn’t even wait to find out if I was okay. He didn’t even wait to find out if…if I was actually safe and not in danger.”

“He’s busy,” she said. “You know he’s busy.”

“Don’t make fucking excuses for him. If he wanted to wait, he will. Do…do you think he has another woman with him there?”

“What?” Jenny blurted out in an incredulous tone. “Of course not. He doesn’t.”

“But what if he does?” I asked. “What if he doesn’t love me anymore?”

“I assure you, he does,” she said, patting my hair while I cried in her arms. “Ian loves you. You know he does.”

“He doesn’t,” I insisted, shaking my head while I sniffed. “If he did then he wouldn’t be comfortable going days without talking to me. Without seeing me.”

“Soph—”

“I hate him!” I declared, sniffing. “I hate him. I’m so fucking done with him.”

“Sophia,” she began and I shook my head, pushing myself off her.

“Can I be alone please?” I asked, turning away from her and burying my face in my palms once again. “I’d like to be alone.”

“Okay,” she answered softly with a nod. “Okay.” She got up from the bed and walked out of my room. I waited until she closed the door and I could no longer hear her again before I raised my head and wiped my eyes.

I walked to my freezer and took a bag of blood from the stash that was in the freezer. I opened it and poured it into a cup and then began to sip. It was the only thing that cold calm me down now.

And I hoped I was able to control myself enough to not attack Jenny the next time I see her.

I drained the cup and dropped it on top of the freezer before dropping to the floor and hugging my knees to my chest. I was just realizing how dangerous I and Jenny’s friendship got every passing day.

She was the human, and I was the vampire who was always spiralling out of control. She was prey, and I was predator. A very dangerous friendship.
