Sophia’s POV.

I remained sitting on the kitchen counter, casually sipping a glass of orange juice while the doorbell rang continuously. I already knew who was by the door without even having to check. Today was Monday, and I had just gotten back from school a few hours ago with Jenny. And about ten minutes ago, they have been ringing the doorbell non-stop.

The guy that Ian told to watch us in the house, Ben, was standing by the door, his eyes darting from me to the door, and back. He was probably contemplating on whether to open the door, or whether to just stay where he was standing and eat me take the lead.

But I wasn’t ready to open the door for them. I wasn’t ready to let them in just yet. I ran my hands through my hair, roughening it a bit and then dropping the glass in the kitchen sink.

“Oh my God. Isn’t there anyone in this house?” Jenny groaned s she came down the stairs. I couldn’t blame her. Even she was already tired of all that noise.

“Didn’t you guys hear that there’s someone by the door?” She demanded when she saw that Ben and I were here. I shrugged while Ben remained unmoving.

She frowned. “Who is by the door?” She asked, directing the question to Ben.

“Ian and Jacob,” he replied flatly, like even he was tired of all the noise but he didn’t have much choice but to stand by the door and take it.

“Did she tell you to not open the door?” Jenny asked with a raised eyebrow as she stalked to the door and opened it. Ian, Lyanna and Jacob we’re standing by the door with an exasperated look on their faces..

“The fuck is wrong with you both?” Ian snapped, his eyes narrowed at me.

“Excuse you?” I shot back, jumping down from the kitchen island and stalking towards him. “Get out.”

“Excuse you?” He repeated my earlier words, his eyes narrowing on me. “The fuck is wrong with you?”

“Get out, Ian,” I repeated, crossing my arms and narrowing my eyes at him.

“And if I say no?” He answered with a scoff.

“Can the both of you just stop this bullshit?” Jenny snapped, coming between us. “I’m really not in the mood for all this. You both can take your issues upstairs and try not to bring the whole house down while at it.”

I glared at her before turning around and storming up the stairs. I refused to listen to what they were saying and I slammed my door shut before siting on my bed and crossing my arms. I really want in the mood to talk to him. I had promised myself that I was done with him and I wasn’t ready to go back to him. I didn’t want him treating me like shit at all.

The door pushed open not long after and he walked in then shut the door behind him before locking it. “What do you want?”

“What do I want?” He repeated with a scoff. “What do you want?”

“What do you mean?” I snapped.

“You can’t fault me for asking. I have every right to ask. What do you want? Because I don’t understand why you turn down my every attempt to protect you at every chance you get! Don’t you understand that you’re in danger?” He shot back.

“I think the only danger here is me being around you. You are the danger,” I snapped at him, shaking my head and glaring at him.

He opened his mouth to speak, and then he shook his head, rubbing his forehead in frustration and taking a step forward. “We need to talk this out,” he said, his voice oddly calm.

My brows furrowed in surprise. I hadn’t expected him to be talking to me in this manner. Like he actually wanted to listen to what I had to say. I had been expecting him to yell at me. To tell me how much of a trouble I was being to him and how much I had cost him already. But he was here…telling us to talk things out. Like he wanted to listen to what I had to say.

I gulped, staring at him without blinking for a few minutes before I decided to follow his lead and talk amicably. “I’m not someone you can just push around,” I began slowly and paused a bit.

“I know that,” he answered.

“Then why do you try to push me around?” I asked. “Why do you try to push me around at every little chance that you get?”

He shook his head. “I’m not pushing you around. I’m just trying to protect you in the only way I know how to.”

“And you didn’t even wait to find out if I was really okay or if something terrible had happened to me,” I continued, ignoring his words. “Do you even love me?” I asked, my voice breaking.

“Jesus. Of course I love you, Soph. You know I do. I always will,” he assured me, walking to me an talking my hand, rubbing softly.

“Then make me feel like you love me not like I’m a burden. Stop trying to keep me in. That might be the Sophia you knew before, but no longer. You can’t lock me in. I can’t stay in,” I told him and sighed. “Stop trying to monitor my every movement.”

“I’m just trying to protect you,” he murmured and I shook my head.

“Ian, I know you just want to protect me. But there men, they can’t protect me. For God’s sake, I sneak out on them on a daily and they don’t even notice it,” I reminded him. “Jenny and I were attacked and where were they?” I asked him. “Where were they?”

He pressed his lips together, not saying anything and I just knew that I had won like that. “I’m the only one that can protect myself, okay? They can’t protect me. They’re not the one who will protect me, Ian. Stop…stop trying to make them protect me.”

He sighed. “Okay,” he said at last.

“Okay?”

He nodded and placed a hand on my cheek. “Okay,” he confirmed and kissed my forehead. “We good now?”

“Yeah,” I replied him with a smile. “We’re good.”

“Because…God’s..I’ve missed you so damn much. It’s been torture going through these past few days without talking to you.”

I smiled and rested my forehead on his. “I miss you too,” I murmured and kisses him on the lips.
