Sophia’s POV

My eyes fluttered open and I frowned at the terrible ache that was taking place in my head. I didn’t know why. I didn’t even know how I fell asleep.

The last thing I remembered was…

Fuck.

Fuck. Fuck. Fuck.

Jenny.

I jumped out of bed instantly and raced to the door. I couldn’t believe that Lyanna had rendered me unconscious. How could she have done that?

I ran out of my room and stopped on my tracks when I saw Jenny sitting on the couch in the living room. Jacob, Ian and Lyanna weren’t there. It was just her.

“Where the hell did you go to?” I breathed out, running down the stairs and engulfing her into a hug. “I thought someone had hurt you! What if someone had hurt you? You shouldn’t be leaving g the house without anyone with you.”

“I needed to clear my head,” she said slowly and I could tell she was shocked.

“You can’t be serious,” I murmured. “Why couldn’t you clear you head outside? Why did you hage to go so far away? You were gone for…hours!” I reminded her.

“I needed to clear my head,” she repeated my firmly instead. I sighed and nodded my head, reading her from the hug.

“I’m so sorry for how I treated you…I’m so sorry for scaring you,” I apologized.

“It’s cool,” she assured me with a small smile..I shook my head. No. It wasn’t cool. I couldn’t understand how she could act like it was cool when we both knew that it wasn’t cool.

“It’s not. I shouldn’t have been aggressive to you,” I told her with a sigh. “And I’m so sorry…I shouldn’t have acted how I did. It’s not right.”

“It’s cool,” she assured me once again but I still shook my head.

“I’m so sorry.”

“You were sleeping,” she said, a clear way of her diverting the conversation.

I snorted. “Sleeping? More like Lyanna made me go unconscious when I started to get worried about you.”

Jenny’s face contorted into a scowl instantly. “She did that? They told me you fell asleep.”

“Why would they even be lying about that?” I murmured, my eyes narrowing slightly. “That’s just too sketchy.”

“Or maybe they knew I’d throw a tantrum if I found out that was what they actually did,” she answered with a frown.

“Did they find you?” I asked but she shook her head.

“They were just about to come looking for me when I came back,” she answered.

“And nothing happened to you? No one harmed you? You wee okay the entire time you were out?” I demanded, watching her intently. She nodded her head.

“Yeah. I didn’t notice anything out of place. I just went for a walk and I ended up in the park not far from her,” she explained.

“Did they…did he yell at you?” I asked curiously.

She nodded her head once. “They tried to but I yelled right back. I’m not going to let them walk all over me. It’s not my fault that I have to watch over my back all the damn time because they put us in danger.”

I gulped and then sighed, turning away slightly and resting back on the chair.

“What’s up with you and him though?” She demandedm “I can tell he’s just as disoriented as you are.”

“You think?” I asked with a raised eyebrow. “He doesn’t seem to be bothered.”

“Trust me, he is,” she answered and took my hand, squeezing it. “But what happened?”

“Exactly what you said. It’s not my fault I have to watch over my back all the damn time. And I tried to tell him that. I tried to tell him that I’m always going to be in danger one way or the other and I can’t let that stop me from living my daily life,” I told her quietly. “I don’t want to go out knowing that there are some of his.men hovering over my every movement and telling him everything I do. I want to live like a normal human.”

“But he doesn’t understand that, does he?” Jenny asked in an equally quiet voice. “He just thinks he’s doing the best for you…he’s trying to protect you. Isn’t that what he thinks?”

“That’s what he thinks,” I confirmed. “And I even appreciate it. I don’t mind that he’s trying to keep me safe but I just don’t like his methods of keeping me safe,” I murmured.

It was killing me that I wasn’t talking to him but he needed to understand that he couldn’t keep me locked uk all the damn time.

She sighed. “We fell in love with overprotective bastards,” she murmured with a sigh and shook her head.

I chuckled and shook my head. “Yeah –” I began and then paused, her words sinking into me. “We?”

Her eyes widened in realization and I didn’t wait for her to speak before I asked. “You’re in love with him?”

“I’m not,” she said defensively. “For God’s sake. Why would I even be in love with my best friend’s man?!”

“I’m not talking about Ian,” I clarified. “I’m talking about his brother. I’m talking about Jacob!”

“What?” She scoffed.

“You’re in love with Jacob?” I asked again, my eyes wide and she shook her head hurriedly.

“gods no!” She snapped.

“You said ‘We fell inove with overprotective bastards’” I reminded her. “What did you mean? Because it sure as hell seemed to me as if you’re confessing to being in love with Jacob.”

“I’m not,” she answered with a shake of her head. “I’m not in love with him. That was a slip of tongue.”

“A slip of tongue huh?” I asked with a raised eyebrow.

“Yes,” she replied, not meeting my eyes.

“Okay,” I said, deciding to not push too far. I ran my hands through my hair and sighed, staring up at the wall.

I knew she was in love with Jacob but she was still in denial.

“So do you have anyone you… like?” I asked at last. “Is there anyone in your life right now?”

“After what Ronan did to me?” She asked with a scoff. “No. I’m no longer interested.”

“But you’ll have to like someone eventually,” I reminded her. “You sure there’s no one you like?”

“Are you driving at something, Soph?” She asked with a raised eyebrow.

“No,” I answered with a sigh and shook my head. “Just wondering.”

“I’m going up. I need to rest,” she murmured, getting up and walking up the stairs. I watched her as she walked off and sighed. She still needs time to think about her feelings for him.
