Jenny’s POV

My life has never been something I was proud of. From being the weird kid that people barely liked ever since I started school, to my parents always moving around and leaving me alone with a nanny who barely ever cared about me.

Then there was going through puberty without my parents…without my mom to walk me through it. Moving through stages of classes without my parents being there to support me with it.

And when I had my first kiss…my mother wasn’t there to share the excitement with me. When I had sex for the first time…there was no one to talk to about it. It has always been me and myself alone with no parental figure with me. The only bright light in my life was Sophia.

I never expected us to be friends. When I first met her, I instantly took her as a competition but she didn’t even mind. She took me as a friend and she wouldn’t stop following me around until I eventually grew on her and we became best friends.

Her family became my own family too. But it was never the same. I wanted my parents. I wanted to be free with my parents the same way she seemed to be free with hers. I wanted the support of my parents the same way she had the support of her parents.

I had always wished I was living her life, and she was living mine. But then that was a wish that would never come true, I guessed.

I mean, the only benefit of having parents like mine was that I never ran out of funds. I always had excess money and I had the freedom to do whatever I wanted. But I wanted more than that. I wanted my parents to be with me. I wanted us to be like a normal family. But I wasn’t sure that could ever happen.

A sigh escaped my lips as I ran my hands through my hair and turned around on my bed. It was almost twelve in the afternoon and I knew that Sophia wouldn’t be awake early since we were currently on our holidays. Since her parents were currently on the other side of the world, visiting her grandparents and mine weren’t even on the continent. We had decided to spend our holidays here with each other.

It was supposed to be fun anyways. It was always fun being with Sophia, but now she was more invested in Ian and I had a feeling that she could wake up now and tell me that she was going to spend a few days with Ian. It was something that could happen.

I loved the fact that she had finally found a man that made her feel giddy and all, but I didn’t like the fact that it was our Lecturer. There wasn’t much I could say about it though. If I disapproved everytime she talked about him, then she’d only continue her relationship with him behind my back. I didn’t want that sort of thing to happen at all.

I sighed again as I turned around on the bed, wondering what we could do today. I didn’t think I was in the mood of staying with Ronan today. I just wanted to stay in and be with my best friend, if she felt the same way of course.

I turned around on my bed again, not knowing why I was feeling restless.

“Are you okay?”

I sat up instantly, only to see Sophia sitting in her bed and staring at me worriedly. “I didn’t know you were awake already,” I answered with an awkward chuckle.

“Well I am. I’ve been awake for a while and I’ve noticed you turning around on your bed for a few minutes now. Are you okay?” She asked with a raised eyebrow.

“Yeah, just feeling rubbish today,” I answered and shot her a grim smile as I stood up from my bed and walked to the restroom. “What should we get today?”

“Get?” She called out in a confused tone.

“Like breakfast?” I answered her.

“You mean lunch,” she corrected. “It’s already twelve. We can go and get some food. Pasta or other things available.”

“Where will we even go to eat?” I asked with a sigh as I closed the door to the restroom. I peed and flushed then cleaned up then stared at my face in the mirror. I looked terrible. With a sigh, I ran my hands through my hair and then used a little bit of water to rinse my face.

After doing that and making sure I looked a little bit better, I walked out of the restroom. She was sitting on her bed, her towel already wrapped around her body. Her focus was on her phone and she had a slight frown on her face as she concentrated on whatever she was doing.

“You going out today?” I asked her and she shook her head slowly.

“Who are you talking to? You seem like you want to beat that person up,” I told her as I walked around the room and sat in front of the vanity, picking up my hair comb and combing the rats nest I called a hair.

“Oh it’s Sarah,” she answered with a shrug. “She wouldn’t stop sending pictures and all from their trip just so I can feel a little bit jealous,” she explained and dropped her phone on the bed. “So what are you up to today?”

“Nothing,” I answered with a shrug. “But right now I’m very hungry,” I added with a sigh. “Should we go out and eat or should we just order something and eat in?”

“Maybe you should order and we should eat in…or we could just take a step out from the dorm and get food at a nearby restaurant. I think that’s better,” she said and I nodded in agreement.

“Alright, just be quick, so I can finally have something to eat,” I mumbled and it was the same time that my stomach decided to embarrass me by making a terrible sound.

She chuckled and shook her head. “Okay okay, point taken. You’re hungry.” She got up and went to the bathroom. I picked up my phone to see if I had any notifications or messages from anyone. But I had none. No texts from anyone of my parents. But it wasn’t their texts that I was waiting for. It was Ronan’s text I was waiting for. And I didn’t have any.

I ran my hands through my hair in frustration and rubbed my face. It didn’t take long before Jenny walked out of the bathroom, the towel wrapped around her body and her hair dripping wet.

I got up and went to take my bath and do my necessities before I finally dressed up. Sophia was already dressed in a simple jean and shirt and I just wore skirt and a top with Crocs. I braided my hair quickly into two and we left the dorm.

We chatted as we stepped out of the dorm and went to the restaurant where she and I were supposed to eat. When we got to the restaurant we sat and ordered our food. I decided to finally tell her about why I had been planning with my father sine all these days.

“So dad and I have been working on something for a while,” I said with a sigh.

“What that?” Sophia asked before she put a forkful of pasta in her mouth.

“I’ve been talking to dad about getting an apartment for us and he has agreed. He actually purchased one not far from the hostel last month and we’d be moving in when the semester resumes. They’re just doing a little bit of furnishing and stuff,” I exclaimed.

Sophia gasped, before getting up from her chair, running around the table and grabbing me in a bear hug. “Why are you just telling me?” She squealed.

“I wanted to be sure,” I answered, wrapping my arms around her and sighing. “You’re cool with it?”

“Of course I am! Finally we get to have our own place and our own kitchen and sometimes we can just cook…we don’t have to spend money on terrible food,” she rambled. “OMG! You’re the best, for real!”

“Thanks, I know,” I answered with a light laughter and kissed her cheek.
