The gym looked nice, Nessa would say. Then again, Liberty was pretty skilled at decorating for dances. She walked into the room, her hand entangled with Scott's as Jessica and Charlie trailed behind them – a really unlikely scene. Both the boys looked great, and the girls, stunning.
"Do you want to dance?" Charlie asked Jessica nervously.
"No." she replied, and Nessa rolled her eyes. Poor Charlie, he had no idea what on Earth he was getting himself into. He nodded, looking around the room for anyone else. "Can you get me some punch?"
"Do they even have punch?" Charlie asked, and Scott looked over at him. "Like is that still a thing?"
Jessica groaned, and Nessa started laughing.
"We will go and find out." Scott spoke up, squeezing Nessa's hand before he dropped it. "Come on, Charlie."
The two boys left to go find something for their respective dates, and the girls stood next to each other, taking in the scenes of the dance. It was hard to believe that this was one of the last school dances they would ever attend.
"What do you want?" Jessica asked someone, and Nessa turned to see who she was talking to. Diego Torres stood beside them, looking sharp in his suit.
"Permission to stand next to you?" he asked Jessica smugly.
"You're amusing." Jess told him. "Permission denied. Come on, Ness."
The girls began to walk away, but Diego was persistent. "Hey, I stood up for you at that workshop. That should get me one dance."
"Oh, good Lord." Nessa muttered as she stood next to her friend, arms crossed in amusement.
"I don't need you to stand up for me." Jessica replied.
"I know, of course you don't, I just..." Diego thought about how to continue. "Look, I think the shit you – both of you – do is really good, and even when you go batshit crazy on people, I get what you two are doing, and it's right."
The girls stood next to each other, exchanging looks. Nessa raised her brows, and Jessica tried her hardest to keep the smirk on her face at minimum. Diego stepped in front of Jessica, a confident grin on his face.
"I just happen to think you look mad sexy when you do it. Is that wrong?" he told her, and then looked over at Nessa. "You're great too, but you and I both know that I would get my knees broken by Scott if I said anything like that to you."
"Correct." Nessa replied, nodding her head. "But thanks anyways."
"Yes, it's absolutely wrong." Jessica told him. "And I'm here with Charlie."
The girls attempted to walk off once again, Nessa craning her neck to see where the boys had ventured off to, and Diego spoke up once more.
"Only to get back at Justin, right?" he asked, his back facing Jessica. "But you chose the wrong guy, you know? Charlie's like, gay, or bi, or something."
"Well, of course you'd think that." Jessica replied as she turned to face the boy again, and Nessa sighed. "Just because he's the only guy on your team other than Nessa's boyfriend that's decent and kind and doesn't hate women, you guys think he's gay? That's fucked up."
