"Your heart was glass, I dropped it..."
Aiden shivered outside in the rain. Though it was uncomfortable, he much preferred it over the screaming inside.
This time it was the noodles being overcooked that tipped Dhruv over the edge. Before it was his mother asking Dhruv about how work that day was, before that it was the clothes not being dry yet, and before that it was the T.V. remote being on the couch instead of on the side coffee table beside the sofa.
He winced as he heard a vase break, then he heard his mother scream and the door slam shut. He ran inside to see his mom on the floor, unable to move.
"Mom?" he whispered. He watched in horror as she tried to get up and just started sobbing uncontrollably.
"Your dad's gone honey. For- for good."
"But don't you guys love eachother?" Aiden asked. His brain was trying to process. What does 'for good' even mean? That couldn't be.
But the sinking pit in his stomach said different.
"He doesn't love me anymore Aiden."
Aiden crumpled to the floor and hugged his mom. They stayed there for a while, frozen.
When she fell asleep, Aiden hugged his knees to his chest and cried.
He didn't let go for another hour.
"You'll find love Aiden." his mom had told him the next day. "Don't think this is common. One day, you'll find someone who loves you unconditionally and forever. And that person will stay. You'll know who it is. You'll feel it in your heart."

The next day, Aru facetimed him. He picked up, simultaneously folding his clothes and putting them away in the drawers in his hotel room.
"Hey."
"Hey." she replied half-heartedly. He immediately looked up, picked the phone up, and went back to his bed, giving his full atttention to her. She looked worse than usual. Her hair was a disheveled mess, her eyes were puffy with dark circles underlining them.
