Ryan's POVThe first night at the cabin passed without incident, but I couldn't shake the feeling that Luca was closing in. I knew he had people everywhere, and it was only a matter of time before one of his guys caught wind of where we were hiding. I had to make my move before that happened.
While Sophie slept, I paced the length of the cabin, my mind racing. Caleb was supposed to meet us here with more information, but he hadn't shown up yet. My gut told me something was wrong.
Just as the sun began to rise, there was a sharp knock at the door. I froze, my heart pounding in my chest. Grabbing the gun I'd stashed in my bag, I moved to the door, signaling for Sophie to stay back.
"Who is it?" I called out, my voice low.
"It's Caleb," came the muffled reply. I relaxed a little but kept my guard up as I opened the door. Caleb stood on the porch, looking over his shoulder nervously. He stepped inside quickly, shutting the door behind him.
"They're coming," Caleb said, his face grim. "Luca's guys. They know you're here."
I cursed under my breath, my mind scrambling for a plan. "How much time do we have?"
"Not much," Caleb said. "Maybe a few hours, tops. They're searching every hideout they know about. They'll be here soon."
Sophie came up beside me, her expression tense. "What do we do?"
"We need to leave," I said, my mind racing. "Now. We can't stay here and wait for them to find us."
Caleb nodded. "I've got a car stashed nearby. It's not far."
Sophie grabbed her bag, and we moved quickly, not wasting any more time. As we headed toward the car, I couldn't shake the feeling that we were walking straight into a trap. Luca was always one step ahead, and if he knew where we were, there was a chance he'd set up an ambush.
We reached the car and piled in, Caleb taking the driver's seat. As we sped down the dirt road, I glanced at Sophie, my heart clenching at the thought of what might happen if Luca caught up to us.
No matter what, I couldn't let him take her.
