Sophie's POV

The darkness was everywhere, pulling me deeper and deeper. I could feel myself slipping away, but in the distance, there was a light—a faint, flickering glow. And then, through the haze, I heard his voice.

Ryan.

I wasn't ready to leave him. I wasn't ready to say goodbye.

But the light was getting closer, and I didn't know if I could resist it anymore.

Ryan's POV

Hours passed. Or maybe it was just minutes—I couldn't tell. Time had lost all meaning as I sat in that cold, sterile waiting room, staring at the double doors that separated me from Sophie.

Caleb sat across from me, silent, his head in his hands. Neither of us spoke. There was nothing to say.

Finally, after what felt like an eternity, a doctor appeared in the doorway. His face was tired, lined with stress, but there was something in his expression that gave me hope.

"Ryan Brooks?" he called.

I shot to my feet, my heart pounding. "That's me. Is she—"

"She's stable," the doctor said, and I nearly collapsed in relief. "The bullet missed any major organs, but she lost a lot of blood. She's going to need time to recover, but we think she's going to pull through."

For the first time in what felt like forever, I could breathe again. I nodded, swallowing hard. "Can I see her?"

The doctor gave me a small smile. "She's resting now, but you can sit with her."
