Ryan's POV

The hospital was a blur of lights and frantic movement. The second Caleb screeched to a halt in front of the emergency entrance, I jumped out with Sophie in my arms, shouting for help. Doctors and nurses rushed toward us, their faces grim as they took her from me and wheeled her inside.

I followed after them, my legs barely holding me up as the weight of everything crushed down on me. But when they reached the doors to the operating room, one of the nurses stopped me, blocking my path.

"You can't go in there," she said gently but firmly. "We need to take care of her now."

I stared at her, my heart hammering in my chest. "But—"

"Please, trust us. We'll do everything we can."

The doors swung shut in my face, and suddenly, I was alone. The silence of the waiting room was deafening after the chaos of the past few hours. My body felt numb, and I slumped into one of the chairs, burying my face in my hands.

I had done everything I could, but now it was up to them. Up to fate.
