(Jc's Pov)
I slowly walk through the noisy coffee shop, scouting the crowd for Melody's smiling face. "Jc!" An excited voice shouts over the top. I turn around only to be greeted by Melody, but she isn't smiling. She calmly waves me over to a crème colored booth. "It's been a long time," She begins as I take a seat across from her. "About two months?" She asks, I nod. I swallow and speak up "It's uh, it's great to see y- I mean, good to see you." She chuckles at my corrections. "Are you aware of why I invited you here?" She asks. I shake my head and fiddle with the menu that sits in front of me. I watch her shift in her seat and cross her legs. "I have some news to share with you... and I don't know how well you'll take it." She admits. "I can take it. Remember, I'm THE Jc Caylen." I say blatantly, not realizing how self absorbed I sound. She lets out a curt laugh and finishes it off with clearing her throat. "So, after our whole situation a couple months ago," I sigh, reminiscing on that day. "Kian confessed his love for me." She finished, causing my mouth to shoot open and my hand to drape over it.
She continues, "I love him too. He and I have been seeing each other for a few days now. Are you okay with that? I still want to be friends, that's why I'm asking." I look at the ground and nod slowly, swallowing my anger. "Yeah, yeah, I'm fine with that." I stutter. "Oh good! I'm so happy!" She applauds. An awkward silence closes in, as I have nothing to say. Shortly it's reversed, a very cheeky waitress walks up. "Hi!! My names Lisa, I'll be your waiter this afternoon. Are you ready to order?" She asks, Melody nods but I stay silent. "Uhm yes actually, can I have a vanilla chai latte?" She asks politely. From the corner of my eye I see the woman nod and scratch something down on her notepad. She looks up from her notes and toward me, signaling me to order. "A water would be awesome." I say quietly. "Sorry, what sir?" "I said, a water would be fine." I reword. She nods, writes it down and strolls away. "Soooooo...." Melody trails, looking out the window. "Soooooo...."I mimic, not in a rude way, but you know what I mean.
"How 'bout them politics?" I chuckle, trying to lighten the mood. "Obama's a dick, beside the fact he helped legalize gay marriage. Congrats to Connor." She says. I nod and examine her body language. She looks quite uncomfortable. Her shoulders hunched over, her legs tightly clasped together, her arms crossed shielding her chest. "Are you feeling okay?" I ask cautiously. She looks at me and nods quickly. "Me? Oh... yeah, I'm fine. I'm just a little tired is all." She covers. "Mel, I'm not gonna look at your boobs. I'm not a douche, at least I hope not... I know you're taken." I chuckle. Her posture straightens and her arms fall to her sides. "Well, I'm not necessarily 'taken', yet." She corrects. "But Kian and I have been on a few dates."
"How many have you been on?" I ask curiously.
"Well, one... But that's not the point." She says quickly, earning a chuckle from me.
Our small talk gets interrupted by Lisa walking up with a tray of drinks. She places a foam cup in front of Melody and sets a glass of ice water down in front of me, along with a small slip of paper. I furrow my eyebrows and glance up at her. She winks and walks away, I shrug and put the slip in my pocket. "As you were saying?" I say, pressing the glass against my lips and taking a sip. "Even though Kian and I went on one date, I still count us as an item." She says. I set my glass down quietly and swallow. "You shouldn't do that." I warn. She furrows her eyebrows, "Why not?" She asks curiously. "You shouldn't just assume things with Kian. You should wait for him to make the first move into the 'item' stage." I explain, earning a nod of approval. "Thanks for the heads up, Jc." She smiles, taking a sip of her coffee. "This was nice, getting to catch up." She says, setting her cup down. "Yeah, it was." I smile. A different waiter walks by and sets down a bill. We both reach for it at the same time, our hands colliding in the process, ending with awkward laughter.
"I've got it." I offer.
"No, trust me, I've got this."
"No, I insist, you're the one who gave me a second chance." I smile, sliding the bill from her hands.
"Okay. Thanks for paying Jc." She smiles. I set down ten dollars and stand up from my seat, Melody does the same. She opens her arms for a hug, I comply. "It was nice getting to see you, Justin." She says quietly, pulling away from the hug and look up at me. "Yeah." I exhale. "Call me sometime, okay?" I nod and turn on my heel, walking out to the parking lot.
