Abby POV

2006, March

After a day of moving in, her father come to see the flat.

— It's secure, that's great. He commented, like a cliché of Dad. It's great. I was expecting magic objects, to be honest.

— She laughed, and so did Samuel in the bedroom. Samuel cast a spell to stop us appearing. He uses his powers very little at home. The magic books are hidden away.

— It's important for the charm! This is our house now, he said as he came up behind me for a hug. She smiled, overjoyed.

— He smiled back at her, at the hug. This is your domain! I'll leave you two lovers alone. My darling, enjoy! Your first house together! He said to Abby, before giving her a hug.

— I love you ! Drive safe !

With everyone gone, she looked at Samuel and their flat. A new achievement, a new city, a new job for her at the Telegraph, for him in a shop in London. She looked around, the space too quiet and not yet home.

— We have to make it us. With dancing! it's... the rule, she improvised badly.

— Whose?" he laughed.

— Universal ! Mine in any case. The flat still doesn't feel like home.

— We need to put that right as soon as possible.

He threw on some music, taking me for a gentle dance, immediately becoming a bit more at home.

They went out to enjoy London in the evening, but reality caught up with them. Samuel was well known here, and some wizards looked on him with varying degrees of benevolence. He moved closer to her, squeezing her hand tighter.

— Some people think I'm still associated with my parents," he confided, "I don't have the mark, but it's just the same for them.

— They're wrong! We knew that when we came here.

— Yes, you're here with me, in London. With you, I can do anything!

— I'm not going anywhere! You're not like that. You know it, I know it, the important people know it.

The next morning.

She woke up, alerted by Samuel struggling in bed.

— Samuel, everything's fine. She whispered, coming closer. He woke with a start, searching for something. She brought her hand closer and he took it, snapping back to reality.

— Abby... he gasped.

— I'm here, it's over. It's over. She moved closer, trying to reassure him with her touch. She wasn't going to ask him to tell.

He moved closer, taking her for a hug. She held back a stupid, ''are you all right?'' He remained silent, calming down, breathing.

— What time is it?" he finally asked, still curled up against her.

— I don't know. Do you want to get up?

— Yes, I'd rather not go back. She held back from asking questions, refusing to be too inquisitive, despite the urge to ask.

— I was at Hogwarts, during the year of Voldemort's reign .... He took his time. The aftermath of the battle. Abby's heart cracked, thinking back to what he'd told her a little. He remained silent afterwards.

— I'm so sorry.

In the evening.

— You should have taken the job at the ministry. It's....

— Daphne. Intervened Samuel. Again, she thought, annoyed. We've talked about this. I don't want the job. I don't deserve it, I got it by name. Final point, please.

She dropped the matter. I smiled at Samuel who didn't answer me, promising to come to him soon, and then I dived back into the discussion of the moment, led by her friends. Astoria and Draco are there too. It's their moment together, celebrating their move, but she's getting more and more worried about him. Moving to London is what they want, but it's not doing him any good at the moment. He's seeing his psychologist this week, which is a good thing.
