Abby POV:
20th August 2007
Abby opened the cupboard with a mechanical gesture, looking for a glass. Her movements had become heavier recently, but she never complained about it out loud. A moment's inattention and the glass slipped from her hands, falling to the floor with a muffled crash. A splinter sank into her palm, but she didn't react immediately. It was a sting, nothing more. She calmly removed the piece of glass before running her hand under water.
— It's nothing, she said quietly. I just broke a glass.
Samuel hurried over to her, and his reaction was immediate, excessive and worried. It irritated her deeply. Part of her liked this attention, this care he gave her, but the other part wasn't made of porcelain.
— It's nothing, I'm fine! she blurted out, dodging the island to prevent it getting any closer.
But Samuel was quicker than she was, reaching out a hand to help her, as if he feared she might collapse.
— No! I've still got two arms and two legs! Don't make a big deal of it!' she replied curtly, without even turning around.
— It's you who's making a fuss,' he retorted.
Abby felt a wave of anger rising and glared at him. Really? You're lecturing me now? Now you're lecturing me ? Samuel, realising his mistake, raised his hands in apology.
— I take back what I said. I'll clean the glass.
She sat down heavily on the sofa, sighing with fatigue. She had hardly put her head against the backrest when she remembered that she needed a bandage. Oh, no, she didn't. But before she could get up, Draco turned to her, careful and attentive.
— I'll take care of it,' he said softly. It'll be over in a second.
— I will, thank you,' Abby replied with a sigh of relief.
Draco cast the spell and the wound disappeared instantly. She thanked him with a nod.
— So, he's not, but Draco is? grumbled Samuel with a touch of jealousy.
— Samuel!' she exclaimed, giving him a stern look. I love you, but this really isn't the time.
He sat down beside her, placing a hand on her knee. She let her head rest against his shoulder. The anger had already dissipated. She closed her eyes, resting on him. She woke up, still having to go to the bathroom. Reluctantly, she got up.
Once in the bathroom, Abby felt a liquid running down her legs, her liquid. Yes, but her heart was racing. Blood. Her heart began to beat frantically. This wasn't right. The blood shouldn't have been there. She rushed out of the room, her face pale.
— My water broke, but there's a problem,' she said, her voice trembling.
Samuel leapt to his side in alarm.
— What's wrong?' he asked, coming closer to her, concern already etched on his face.
— There's blood...
Without wasting any time, Samuel grabbed the bag prepared for the hospital and, in a split second, they were off to the hospital. Abby was feeling panicky, but Samuel, though frightened too, was trying to keep calm. He quickly explained the situation to the doctors as she was helped to a bed. Abby, her hands trembling, gradually began to regain her composure, but there was only one question that haunted her.
— Is the baby all right? she asked anxiously.
The examination revealed a small amount of bleeding, which stopped easily. But the doctor was straightforward in his diagnosis.
