Glory gently stroked the huge petals of the flowers all around her. She was taking a walk in a small section of the rainforest where dragons hardly ever went because there wasn't much fruit. Just a lot of pretty flowers. As the walked, Glory thought about names for her future dragonets.
Something dark but pretty, she thought. Maybe ... Star-something would be nice, but it's too NightWing. Some dark-coloured rainforest animal? Her thoughts trailed off into pure happiness at the thought of her future dragonets. Would there be a female egg? She felt sure there would be at least one female. An heir to the throne, at last, in case something happened to her. But she was excited.
She glanced up and saw that it was a few hours until sunset, so she just walked along, admiring the beautiful flowers on the ground, until a dark figure slammed into her, pinning her into the ground.
Glory let out a hiss. I'm being attacked! It's a NightWing! She thought angrily, trying to use her venom, but the NightWing had skillfully wrapped his talons around her snout so she couldn't. She growled as loud as she could while trying to claw him, but his long legs made it hard. I'm going to rip him apart!
But then, she noticed who it was and was shocked. It was Cunning, Starchaser's assistant! His talons pressed her into the dirt harshly.
"Well, well, RainWing," Cunning said, his usually friendly voice icy. "Guess who's working with Fierceteeth."
Her eyes went wide with shock, and then narrowed in anger. She struggled, but he was lean and strong.
"You and that traitor Deathbringer not the only ones who know you're having dragonets, you know," he whispered ominously. He thrust his face very close to Glory's, and said threateningly, "We've had enough of your ruling. Leave the rainforest. Never come back. And if you do, the rainforest will burn, and I promise, me and my allies will find a way to make sure that your dragonets and Deathbringer suffer a slow and painful death. And I mean it, the rainforest will burn."
The threat chilled her to the bone. Even if she killed him now, Cunning's accomplices would find a way to harm the dragons she loved. Including her future dragonets and Deathbringer. Rage swelled up inside her like a wave about to crash onto the beach, but she pressed it down, resisting the urge to kill him.
He flashed her a proud, evil smile and then flew away towards the RainWing village.
Glory sat up, panting with fury. Her heart was beating like crazy. How dare he threaten her like that! Threaten harmless unhatched dragonets! Cunning would pay. But not for now. If she showed her face, everyone she cared for would suffer for it. And she didn't want that.
Fine. I won't act just yet, she thought, trying to calm herself. I can camouflage. I can disguise myself as some other RainWing. I'll figure out a way to get the throne back. Away from Fierceteeth or whoever might take over!
Right now, her first priority was Deathbringer. He needed to know what was going on. Or he'd go mad, wondering where she was. And then Starchaser. Being a NightWing, she may be able to do something to help. Grandeur. Perhaps Secretkeeper, too, who was loyal to her. And she would work from there.
Having a plan calmed her for the time being. But she realized that she needed to eat. So she flew for a short while, camouflaged, and ate a few fruits. Then she drank from water from a shallow pool, before slinking back into the shadows.
Night was falling. Tonight, she would go to Deathbringer and explain the situation. But, for the good of her dragonets, she decided to get some rest before midnight, when she planned to visit him.
