Deathbringer blinked, trying to shake off the dizziness. His head throbbed with pain, and it made him shudder in discomfort. His vision was starting to blur. Was it being caused by the SandWing venom? But he didn't remember feeling that bad ...
"Deathbringer?"
His spirits rose as her voice reached him. He'd recognize that tone anywhere. Glory was padding towards him, looking serious.
"What is it, Your Majesty?" He asked. Deathbringer was surprised by how weak and sick he sounded. What is wrong with me? Am I really that sick?
"The healer thinks that your symptoms weren't caused by the SandWing venom," she said, sounding concerned. "He thinks ... he thinks you were poisoned."
Shock and intrigue pulsed through him. I was poisoned? When? Was it a dart, or something I ate or drank ... The world swirled around him and he found it hard to form clear thoughts with the awful headache still lingering.
"How?" He choked out. He wasn't sure, but he thought he glimpsed Glory's scales turn fear-green.
"No one knows. The poisoners might have been targeting someone else, but you must've eaten or drank something that was poisoned," Glory said, curling her tail around her talons as she looked at him worriedly. "Do you know what that might be?"
He tried to search through his memory to find what had poisoned him. When was the last time he ate or drank? He drank at the stream before leaving for the NightWing village, and then ate a ... something he couldn't really recall ... at the NightWing village?
"Deathbringer?" Glory's voice made him sit up abruptly. He had nodded off, although he felt relatively awake, just sick. The headache was worse than ever.
"The last thing I ate or drank was something from the Night village," Deathbringer mumbled. "Is that helpful?"
"Probably," Glory replied. "You mean the fruits Cunning gave us?"
"Yes."
"Thank you," she said regally with a dip of her head. She's so calm... "You can rest now."
Then, to his surprise and delight, she reached out an emerald green talon and gently laid it on his wrist. He froze at her touch. It was as warm as sunshine, but also calming and firm. If he could, he felt like he would freeze time and stay there forever. He let out a sigh and closed his eyes, tired, even though he had barely done anything apart from talk.
Listening the to faint sound of Glory's rhythmic breaths, he slipped effortlessly into sleep.
(This is a short chapter because I want to do the next events from Glory's POV.)
