After Glory's visit to the NightWing healer's hut and the delivery of the life-saving cure, the NightWings had begun to tolerate Glory and the RainWings somewhat, and that was their chance. Their chance to take down Fierceteeth, the despicable dragon who had tried to assassinate Glory, poisoned Deathbringer, temporarily taken over, enchanted Deathbringer to be loyal to her, and attacked the RainWings.
"So, surely you're not going to barge right in and demand to announce something to the whole NightWing village, right?" Deathbringer asked teasingly. Of course not, she's way too smart for that. Glory snorted and whacked him with her tail, which had turned yellow with amusement.
"Obviously not," she replied in mock surprise. "Instead, we're going to politely ask for permission to tell them something, gather the whole village, and then tell them the truth about Fierceteeth." The truth, Deathbringer thought. As in, Glory only wants the best for them and that Fierceteeth was lying.
"Excellent idea," he said approvingly. Just then, Amber hopped up to them, her eyes wide.
"Mommy! Daddy! Are you going to the NightWing village again?" Their dragonet asked curiously.
Glory nodded. "Yes, we are." As she smiled down at her daughter. Deathbringer put one wing around both of them. "We're going to take down Fierceteeth."
"Oooh," Firefly said excitedly. "Are you going to fight her?"
Deathbringer chuckled. That fight would not go well.
"In a way, we're going to fight her," Glory replied. "With words. And hopefully we'll win the fight." Fern was leaning in to listen. "Now, we're going soon, so while we're at the NightWing village, you guys stay here on the pavilion, okay? And don't fly without an adult so someone can catch you if you fall." They nodded.
"Okay!" Amber said.
"Come on, Deathbringer, time to overthrow an evil queen," Glory said with a flick of her tail. Deathbringer gave her a huge smug grin and then followed her as she took off.
Soon, they were at the border. A NightWing border patrol was up ahead, so Glory paused and they waited until the NightWings spotted them. There was a SandWing among them.
"Hi!" One of the NightWings shouted. They were clearly more welcoming than before. "Why are you here?"
Glory nodded politely. "I would like to tell the NightWing village something. They'll want to hear it. May I please make an announcement to your tribe?"
The NightWings whispered to each other before the lead NightWing replied, "Alright. Come on."
Despite the friendliness, the NightWing patrol still had to escort them. There was one NightWing in front, one SandWing one the right of them and another NightWing on the left. Then, they guided Glory and Deathbringer to the centre of the NightWing village. Deathbringer noticed that the stares he and Glory were receiving were much less hostile. Nice.
Soon, they had approached Fierceteeth, who turned around and hissed.
She looked at the patrollers and demanded, "What are these dragons doing here?"
One of them replied, "Queen Glory says she has something to tell to the whole tribe." Deathbringer didn't like the irritated, deadly look in Fierceteeth's eyes as she glared at Glory. He filled with hatred for Fierceteeth and her friends. However, he tried his best not to straight-up kill her.
"What are you going to tell them?" Fierceteeth growled to Glory like she, too, was restraining from attacking someone.
Glory replied in a calm, unbothered manner, "You'll find out when the whole tribe is gathered."
The NightWing growled again. "Fine," Fierceteeth snapped. She turned around and barked at two nearby NightWings, "Swifttail, Obsidian! Go gather the whole tribe a the pavilion." She muttered unhappily under her breath, which amused Deathbringer.
Soon, the whole tribe was gathered at the NightWing pavilion. A lot of them were whispering to one another curiously. They were all excited to hear what Glory would have to say, despite her not being their queen anymore.
"Good morning, NightWings," Glory said in a humble way. She's smart. She knows not to sound too superior, in case that sparks anger. "I'm sorry for interrupting your day, but I have something important and probably shocking to tell you." The NightWings were now even more curious. Glory turned to Fierceteeth. "Your queen had lied to you." Gasps rippled through the crowd.
Fierceteeth stared back, speechless. Then, she composed herself and spat, "What are you talking about? What did I lie about?" Ooof. That's not a very believable act.
"About me," Glory replied confidently. "Now, tell us all what you said about me."
"You were trying to harm our tribe," Fierceteeth claimed boldly. "You were keeping us here so you could enslave us and then kill us when we were of no use to you. You had a secret stash of weapons hidden out in the rainforest. You put them there so you could attack us when the time came!"
Deathbringer remembered. He had been the one who created that stash. In case the tribe went to war. And he had not told Glory of it, but it did exist. He had put a large amount of weapons in the west of the rainforest, in a secret location that only he knew.
"I was the one who created that stash!" He cried, leaping up beside them. He glared at Fierceteeth, who hissed in frustration. "I made it a year ago in case a war broke out and the RainWings and NightWings had to use the weapons. And they were not put there to kill you. They were put there so we could all use it to defend ourselves if we needed to!"
"I didn't even know about that stash until now," Glory said slowly. She turned to the NightWings and gazed down at them. "I have no intention of ever harming any of you."
"I bet the dragons who have been seriously wounded by your RainWings would disagree!" Nebula shouted angrily, flying up to join the argument. "What do you have to say about that?"
"If you want to blame someone for those injuries," Glory said, still calm and not angry at all. Or, she didn't seem angry to the outside observer. Deathbringer knew she must want to rip Fierceteeth apart. "Blame Queen Fierceteeth."
Fierceteeth frowned. "What?"
"If you had not lied to your NightWings and convinced them I hated them, we never would have fought," Glory explained to her enemy as calmly as she could. "Those injuries were highly preventable. But you still had to make your dragons suffer, just because you wanted me dead."
The reality of that sunk in. Fierceteeth growled, unable to defend herself against such a logical statement.
"I would like to be your queen again," Glory continued. "You are all smart, independent and brilliant dragons, and you have only turned against me because you have been decieved by her." She pointed at Fierceteeth, who growled.
"Queen Glory!" Someone shouted from below, eagerly. "Queen Glory!"
"Queen Glory!" Another joined in. Soon, the whole tribe was chanting Glory's name enthusiastically. Glory looked at him, and he smirked.
"It'd be an honour to lead you," Glory said, almost in an embarrassed way. "First, someone get Fierceteeth and her friends locked up. These dragons are dangerous." She glanced sideways at Nebula. Fierceteeth roared in anger and leaped at Glory. Deathbringer darted in front of her and knocked her to the ground so easily that her attack seemed pathetic. Two NightWings rushed forward and pinned her down.
"Traitors!" Nebula shrieked hysterically as another three wrestled her to the ground. "Traitors!" Bloodwatcher, Silvermind and a few others were also being contained.
"Keep them in the prison in the RainWing village," Glory said calmly. "Tell any RainWings you meet that I sent you. The border ... well, I guess there shouldn't be a border anymore. I'll give you a few days to organize yourselves, and I'll also send Starchaser over." A few NightWings brightened at the statement. Starchaser was still rather popular with the NightWings.
Finally, Glory hopped down from the Pavilion and the two of them flew away.
