Deathbringer and Glory snuck through the rainforest, a sea of camouflaged RainWings behind them.
They were just approaching the edge of the RainWing village. There were many NightWing and SandWing guards surrounding the village. All of those dragons needed to be driven out.
Glory flicked him with her tail, silently, signalling that they were about to attack. And she was about to chuck herself into danger. Deathbringer remembered the dull pain and ill feeling he experienced after he got stabbed by a SandWing tail. There was no way he was about to let Glory suffer like that.
Starchaser and her group should be in position by now, Deathbringer thought. We're going to attack.
They all knew what the big signal was going to be. Glory's scales became a mix of scarlet red, black, and orange, colours so bright it hurt Deathbringer's eyes. He leaped out of his hiding position, tackling a guard to the ground. A spray of venom made a couple howl in pain and bolt away.
Claws sank into the scales on his back and Deathbringer hissed in pain. Blood sprayed onto his wings as he spun around, and then sliced his claws along the other NightWing's shoulder. A shriek made him turn around. Glory was being pressed against a tree by a bulky NightWing with claws raised, ready to rip open her throat. Deathbringer roared and barreled into him, knocking him away from Glory. He would use his fire, but they were in the rainforest, so Deathbringer ducked as Glory sprayed venom onto the NightWing. He screamed and ran off.
Roars and hisses echoed through the rainforest.
"That's right, run!" Glory called as her attacker fled. "Run for your lives!"
A NightWing was charging at her, though, and she spun around. No! Deathbringer hurled himself in front of her just in time as the flames shot from the NightWing's mouth.
He roared in pain as the flames touched his wings, leaving long burns. Glory slashed at the NightWing and kicked at his stomach with her back claws, leaving long, bloody marks. The NightWing roared and then sliced her shoulder. She yelped and Deathbringer got up again, despite the pain in his right wing.
He hadn't forgotten his assassin training. He dodged a blow from the NightWing — who he noticed might be Fatecarver — and then struck his exposed underbelly, causing him to stumble back.
Rearing up, Deathbringer hissed and then delivered another blow so hard that Fatecarver was knocked off his feet. He turned tail and ran away. That's what you get, you traitor.
"Are you okay?" Glory asked, inspecting Deathbringer's burns.
"I'm alright," Deathbringer answered. "The NightWings are retreating, I think." Glory nodded
She raised her voice so all the RainWings could hear. "Go after them!" Glory commanded, and the RainWings surged towards the escaping NightWings. Chasing them into the ambush.
Starchaser and her group burst out of the undergrowth. NightWings roared in surprise as they met the ambush. Deathbringer spotted Fierceteeth in the crowd, looking infuriated and stuck-up, like usual.
In the panic and confusion, the NightWings ended up running in the direction of their own village. Fierceteeth seemed to be commanding them to stay and fight, but no one listened. Soon, only the RainWings, Deathbringer and Starchaser were in the RainWing village.
