(PRETTY BIG TIME SKIP)
It was the day. The day that their eggs were supposed to hatch.
Deathbringer and Glory sat inside of the Royal Hatchery. It was early dawn, and a sliver of light illuminated the room, as well as the firefly jars. Deathbringer's heart was racing with excitement. He studied the eggs closely. One of them had a barely noticeable crack in it. That one's going to hatch!
Glory was pink and yellow, which was very unusual for her. They had all been anticipating the hatching of their dragonets. Neither of them spoke, too excited to talk to each other.
A huge crack appeared on the largest egg. It made a loud noise, and Deathbringer inhaled sharply, leaning in. It shook slightly, as though struggling to break free.
Finally, the dragonet inside kicked away the eggshell and stared up at her parents with wide, orange eyes, her little talons moving around.
Glory gasped. Deathbringer stared at the dragonet wonderingly. She's so perfect! He slowly reached down and scooped up the dragonet with both talons. She was beautiful! Huge, adorable amber eyes, sunset-coloured scales dappled with dots of black, bright yellow wings and a pink tail. An heir to the throne.
The dragonet squeaked and wriggled around. Deathbringer nudged her with his snout lovingly, as Glory whispered disbelievingly, "She's adorable."
Deathbringer was so happy that momentarily he didn't fully comprehend what Glory had said. Finally, he said, "What should we name her?"
"I'm thinking ... something orange. Do you think Amber would be alright?" She suggested, enfolding the tiny dragonet in her bright pink wings.
Deathbringer smiled widely as he put his wing around her. "That's a wonderful name. Hello, little Amber."
"Awrrah?" Amber mumbled, already trying to stand. "Grawwwrrrrarr." Glory laughed lightly and tapped her on the nose. Amber giggled and turned towards the other two eggs, looking at them curiously. She gently prodded of them, which shook. Smart little dragonet.
"Look!"Deathbringer said, pointing at the second eggs, the one which was shaking. A small crack appeared. "This one's hatching, too."
Glory became still as she observed the egg. Finally, she reached down and tilted it a little. The crack became even bigger and the second dragonet hatched, letting out a loud, hungry squeak.
"Another girl," Glory commented, smiling, as the dragonet shakily stood up and then fell over again clumsily. The dragonet was slightly tinier than Amber, and dark purple with bits of orange and yellow. She had white speckles on her wings and tail, but instead of white they were a yellow-ish orange colour. Like fireflies.
"Maybe we should name her Firefly," Deathbringer suggested as the dragonet stood up again, steadier this time, and took a few shaky steps towards her big sister, Amber. Amber squealed with delight and ran over to the purple dragonet.
"Yes, that's a good name," Glory agreed with a nod. Finally, all at once, the third egg hatched. It was a boy. He was emerald green, a lot like Glory, but a shade darker. He had eyes almost identical to Deathbringer's, and a very similar face, too, but his colours shifted ever so slightly. Deathbringer nudged him towards his siblings and he squeaked. "What should we name this one?"
"He's giving off plant vibes," Deathbringer said, smiling down at his son. "Vine, maybe?"
"I don't know. Maybe ... Fern."
Deathbringer nodded. "Yes, that's a great name. Prince Fern."
Glory curled her tail around her three newly-hatched dragonets and they both beamed at Princess Amber, Princess Firefly, and Prince Fern. They were perfect.
