Glory was crouching, camouflaged in the undergrowth. This was it. The opportunity they had been wishing for. A big meeting where all the dragons from both tribes had to attend. And Fierceteeth was going to make a speech or something. The young female NightWing was standing on the new pavilion in the NightWing village, with both tribes assembled before her.
Glory smiled slyly. She spotted Starchaser on the pavilion next to Fierceteeth, and Granduer and Deathbringer in the crowd below. Ready to execute their plan.
"Good morning, NightWings and RainWings," Fierceteeth began, her gaze sweeping over the gathered dragons. "Today, as your queen, I am proud to announce that —"
"Wait!"
Granduer and Deathbringer, as well as Starchaser, stepped up and went to the front of the pavilion, side by side with Fierceteeth.
"RainWings and NightWings!" Granduer said sternly. "Fierceteeth is not your queen. And Queen Glory is not dead."
The RainWings and NightWings recoiled in shock, gasping and quickly whispering to their friends.
"Your Majesty?" Starchaser said, dipping her head to where Glory was hiding.
This is it, Glory thought. She stood up, un-camouflaged herself, and stepped out of the shadows, every emerald green or orange scale lit up by shafts of sunlight. Jambu, Liana and a few other RainWings yelped in surprise. Looking regal and as royal as always, Glory nodded to Deathbringer, Granduer and Starchaser. Fierceteeth glared at her, looking stricken and furious.
"You have all been told that I am dead," Glory said calmly. "However, you have been lied to. Cunning had threatened to harm the kingdom if I ever came back, but now he is being contained in a secret prison. Fierceteeth, you have mistreated the RainWings and rigged the election, which are both acts that are unfair and harmful to the tribe." She turned her ruffs red for effect. "Now, you and your followers will be joining the SandWings in the temporary prison."
Fierceteeth glared down at Glory, unable to defend herself against such a truthful and powerful statement. She hissed as Starchaser approached her.
"Come on, to the prison with you," Starchaser muttered in a stern but pleased tone. She ushered the younger NightWing off of the pavilion. The RainWings cheered.
"Just you wait!" Fierceteeth called out to Glory furiously, twisting around to roar at her. "I'll get revenge, you can be sure of that!" Then, Starchaser hissed at Fierceteeth, and marched her off in the direction of the prison.
Ignoring Fierceteeth's dramatic exit, Glory hopped lightly onto the pavilion. "Alright," she said in her usual tone when giving orders. "As queen, I now declare that suntime is allowed again. Oh, and any rule that Fierceteeth has created is now ineffective." She beckoned to Deathbringer with a swish of her tail, and they walked off of the pavilion together. The crowd parted before them. Jambu, who was yellow with excitement, bounded up to them when they were a good distance away from the crowd.
"Thank the moons you're alive!!!" Jambu yelped, jumping up and down.
"Yes, I'd survive anything," Glory said, thinking about how her older brother still acted like a tiny dragonet.
"Right!" Jambu said. "Anyways, I'm going tree-gliding with Liana and Pineapple, so bye!"
"Bye," Glory replied with a wave. I can't believe he's older than me! She thought.
"What should we do now?" Deathbringer asked, studying a small flower on a vine. He looked up at her with a smug grin. "You know, you still haven't told your friends that we're having dragonets." Glory smiled back and twined her tail around his.
"Yeah, I probably should write them a letter," she answered. Glory realized something. "Oh, and the eggs need to be put in the Hatchery." Right now, they were still hidden near the edge of the rainforest.
"With all the other eggs? We can spare a few dragons to work on a Royal Hatchery," Deathbringer suggested. "All the other kingdoms have them."
Glory thought for a moment. "Well ... fine. Let's go to the Royal Pavilion so I can send a message to Jade Mountain." With that, they flew until they reached the pavilion high up in the trees, surrounded by morning glories. Glory always kept letter paper and ink here. Thankfully, Fierceteeth didn't seem to have touched the Royal Pavilion much. She took out a piece of letter paper and began to write.
Dear My Friends,
Hey. I've got some pretty exciting news to tell to you. Me and Deathbringer are having dragonets. There's three of them, and they'll be hatching in almost a year. I can hear you guys shrieking when this letter gets to you, by the way. Not you, Tsunami. I know that.
Anyways, there was a bit of a scandal and Fierceteeth was a queen for a while. I know. Crazy, right? It's alright, I'm queen again now, and everything's fine. The RainWings are delighted and Fierceteeth's followers are getting locked up. Hopefully we'll be able to let them out someday, but for now they're too untrustworthy.
How is everything at Jade Mountain Academy? Write back as soon as you can!
- Glory
