Sonic and Tails walked along the dusty path toward Sonic's shack, the sunset casting long shadows behind them. Sonic was still fuming from the earlier incident, muttering curses under his breath. Tails, ever the voice of reason, tried to bring some sense to the situation.
"I don't get it, man," Sonic said, kicking a rock down the path. "How the hell does Shadow, of all people, have a girlfriend? He's always been the loner, calling friendship a 'sign of weakness,' yet somehow he's got Perci wrapped around his damn finger."
Tails nodded, adjusting his goggles. "Yeah, it is weird. Shadow's always acted like he doesn't need anyone, and now he's all lovey-dovey with Perci. I mean, I never thought I'd see the day where he'd even let someone close, let alone treat them like this."
Sonic clenched his fists. "It doesn't make sense. He's got no heart, man! He doesn't care about anything but himself! This whole thing with Perci... it's gotta be an act."
Tails shrugged. "Maybe he's changed. I mean, people can surprise you. Or maybe Perci's just different for him. You can't force someone to feel something they don't. And she clearly makes him happy, even if we don't understand why."
Sonic scoffed. "Happy? Shadow doesn't do 'happy.' He does 'brooding' and 'pissed off.' This whole thing is just weird."
They arrived at Sonic's shack, where a familiar sight awaited them. Sitting on the porch, as if they owned the place, were Shadow and Perci. Shadow was relaxed, his arm casually draped around Perci's shoulders, his usual stoic expression softened ever so slightly. Perci was leaning into him, looking completely content. Across from them, Amy, Sticks, and Knuckles sat in a loose circle. Amy looked serious, while Knuckles was fiddling with something in his hands, and Sticks was chewing on a stick, glancing around like she was looking for spies.
As Sonic approached, his fury surged again. Seeing Shadow all cozy like this at his place, like he didn't have a care in the world—it pissed him off beyond belief.
"What the hell are you doing here?" Sonic snapped, marching up to them, fists clenched.
Shadow didn't even flinch. He glanced up lazily, his red eyes locking onto Sonic's, his expression unreadable. "Relax, Sonic. We're just sitting here."
Perci shifted slightly, looking between the two of them with a sigh. "Sonic, can we not do this right now? We've been through this already."
Sonic's blood boiled. "Do what? You sitting here, acting like everything's cool while this asshole—"
Before Sonic could finish, Amy stood up, arms crossed. "Sonic, enough," she said, her tone firm. "We need to have a talk. All of us."
Tails raised an eyebrow, looking between Amy and Sonic, sensing the seriousness in Amy's voice. "Uh, Amy... what's going on?" he asked cautiously.
Amy sighed and stepped forward. "This... whatever this is between you and Shadow... it's getting out of hand. It's childish, Sonic. You're jealous, and it's hurting everyone around you, including Perci."
Sonic's jaw dropped. "Jealous? Me? No way! I'm not jealous of him," Sonic scoffed, throwing a thumb over his shoulder at Shadow, who remained unfazed.
Amy gave him a look that could melt steel. "You are jealous. And it's obvious. Every time Shadow and Perci are together, you get all worked up, trying to prove something. It's like you can't handle the idea of someone else being happy if it's not you."
Sonic looked at her, utterly dumbfounded. "That's bullshit, Amy! I'm not—"
"You are," Amy interrupted. "You think just because Shadow is usually a loner that he doesn't deserve to be happy? He's not the same person he used to be, Sonic. People grow, people change. You need to get over it."
Shadow, who had been quiet until now, glanced at Perci and then back at Sonic. "For once, she's right, Sonic. You're making a fool of yourself, and it's getting old."
Sonic clenched his fists tighter, his anger flaring up again. "You think you're so damn perfect, don't you?" he spat. "Like you're better than me just because you've got a girlfriend now."
Shadow's eyes narrowed slightly. "I don't think I'm better than you. I know I am," he said, his voice calm but laced with venom.
Sonic lunged forward, ready to throw a punch, but Amy stepped between them, her eyes flashing. "Sonic, stop!"
Knuckles, finally pulling his attention away from whatever he was fiddling with, looked up and muttered, "You guys gonna punch each other, or can we, like, eat or something?"
Tails sighed, rubbing the back of his head. "This is getting out of hand."
Sticks, who had been uncharacteristically quiet, suddenly chimed in. "Wait... what if this whole fight is just a government conspiracy to distract us from the real threat—like alien squirrels? Huh? Anyone think of that?"
Everyone turned to stare at her for a moment before ignoring the comment.
Amy shook her head, exasperated. "We're not doing this, Sonic. We're going to talk this out like adults."
Sonic crossed his arms, glaring at Shadow and Perci. "Fine. Let's talk. But I'm not the one who started all this."
Perci sighed, shaking her head. "You kind of did, Sonic."
Sonic blinked, taken aback. "Me? How?"
"You keep picking fights with Shadow. He doesn't go out of his way to make you mad, Sonic. You're the one who's got a problem," Perci said softly, but there was a firmness in her tone that shut Sonic up.
Shadow smirked, clearly enjoying the situation. "It's not my fault you can't handle seeing someone else be happy."
Sonic shot him a glare, but before he could respond, Amy raised her hand. "Enough. We're going to sit here and talk this out like grown-ups. And if anyone throws a punch, I swear I'll—"
"Punch them harder?" Knuckles chimed in with a grin.
Amy rolled her eyes. "Yes, Knuckles. I'll punch them harder."
