Epilogue: A Week Later

A week later, Sonic was standing in front of his shack, thinking over everything that had happened. He still couldn't believe how badly he'd let his jealousy get to him. But tonight was different. Tonight, he was going to focus on Amy, not on outdoing Shadow.
When he arrived at Meh Burger, to his surprise, Shadow and Perci were already there. Shadow had his arm around Perci, looking as calm and collected as ever. Perci smiled up at him, completely at peace in his arms.
Sonic walked up with Amy beside him, offering a small smile. "Hey, uh, sorry about... everything."
Shadow gave him a long look, then shrugged. "Water under the bridge, Faker."
They all sat down together—Sonic and Amy, Shadow and Perci—for what would be their first real, no-competition, double date. Sonic didn't try to one-up Shadow this time. He just focused on being himself, and for the first time, Amy smiled at him in a way that made him think maybe, just maybe, he'd been doing things right all along.
Shadow, true to form, still managed to be the perfect gentleman. He'd never stop spoiling Perci, and that was just fine. As Sonic watched them together, he realized something important. It wasn't about the money, or the grand gestures, or the competition. It was about making the person you care about feel loved. Shadow had figured that out long before Sonic did.
In the end, Sonic leaned over to Amy, giving her a soft smile. "Hey, Ames... I'll get better at this. Promise."
Amy laughed softly, resting her hand on his. "You're doing just fine, Sonic."
And for once, Sonic believed it.
