"What the hell's wrong with dating a black girl?" I ask angrily. No, furiously. If my parents aren't the biggest jackasses ever, I don't know who is.
"Please calm down, Trevor," my mom sighs.
"And watch your tone when you're talking to your mother," my dad inputs. I scold him then look back at my mother. She looks tired and worried, and a bit irritated.
"Are you going to answer my question?"
"It's just that.. she's different. You understand that, right hon?" So she's trying to be sympathetic now? My blood's boiling like hot fucking lava and she wants to play with me. What kind of bullshit is this?
"So I can't date a black girl because she's "different"? News flash! People can't control the amount of melanin in their skin! Y'all need some tests ran on your heads 'cause the words that come out of your mouths never make sense." I get up from the mahogany kitchen table and leave out the front door, slamming it as hard as my arm will allow me to. My parents have said some pretty fucked up stuff, but this tops the list.
"Trevor! Trevor Payne you get back here now!" I hear my mother calling from the house. She's lost all of her mind, along with my dad.
"For what?" I yell back. I turn around to face her but continue walking backwards toward the street.
"Because I'm your mother and you do as I say, that's why!"
"Hey, I'm dating a black girl, aren't I?" I smirk, trying her. She gives me a death glare, then allows her arms to flop down beside her, as if to say she's given up. I watch her as she turns around and heads back into the house, slamming the door as I did before.
Way to try to be assertive, mom.
I hop on my skateboard that's sitting on the curb and begin to head over to Mason's house.
