Wednesday evening

This is the part of the day that I hate the most: dinner.

My parents are the good old traditional kind that think a family isn't a family unless they all eat dinner together. So that's what we do.

Every

single

night.

It is pure torture. Kyle and I barely say anything, and are always giving each other our 'this is bullshit' looks, while our parents sit at either end of the table chattering up a storm. They'll ask "How was your day?" and "How's school?", then they'll talk the rest of thirty minutes of dinner until everyone is excused from the table.

It's like hell in my dining room.

But for some reason (which I'm sure we all know,) I haven't stopped smiling since yesterday. I don't mind the smiling, because it's there for a very beautiful reason, but damn my parents are the nosiest people ever. I try to stop smiling, for the sake of not having to answer any of my parents' questions, but it just doesn't work. Every time I think of April, or the fact that she's my girlfriend, or holding her hand, or walking her to class-

"Trevor, dear, what are you so happy about?" My mom asks.

Dammit.

"Um, nothing mom, just thinking about something," I tell her. Ever since it happened, my mom has been super cautious of who I date, which is why I don't date. I haven't had a girlfriend in just a little over two years. And although I'm not completely over what happened, I'm a teenager, and I'm going to date.

"Or someone," Kyle says, smirking. I shoot him a glare and he chuckles.

"Someone?" My dad asks. He's kind of been pushing me to get over what happened and find a new girl to, as he says, "occupy my time."

"Can we not talk about this?" Don't get me wrong, I am very proud of my April. But my parents are so quick to want to meet people, and April and I just starting dating. I can't let them scare her away with their strict guidelines and weird questions, so I'd rather wait before I tell them about her.

"What's the matter, hon?" My mom's giving me a worried look and Kyle and my dad are staring at me.

"Nothing. I'm just peachy," I mumble sarcastically, and I guess my dad heard my smart reply because he shifted in his seat; something he does when he's beginning to get aggravated.

"You're hiding something, son," he says. I look at him and shake my head, grinning to myself.

"Trevor, we're not going to play this game with you," inputs my mother, then Kyle decides that it's his turn to butt in.

"I think it's a girl. Is it a girl, Trevor?" He's such a jackass for that. He knows that I don't want them to know. He's only doing this because he's in the shithole right now and is trying to put the spotlight on me to keep himself in the clear.

"How is school going, Kyle?" I ask, and his jaw immediately clenches.

"I don't think we should talk about that right now," he growls.
