I took the little dino and the egg back home, considering the egg was meant to hatch today, Dr Wu saw no need to keep it in the incubator. Now the egg was resting in a blanket on the bench next to me.

"Now, what will I name you," I hum and prepare some chopped up meat.

He was still a bit wobbly on his feet, but crawled down to where I was, chirping loudly as if to say 'look at me!'.

I looked down at him and saw him as he scooted closer to my leg looking up at me innocently. He was so precious.

I turned back to making food and tossed him a small cube of meat which he didn't know what to do with and instead growled at it angrily as his nostrils flared with the new smell.

I bent down and picked up the slice and held it to his nose. He sniffed and gave out a small rumbling growl which was not very scary.

I placed a hand on his top jaw and pried his mouth open and shoved it down his throat.

If dinosaurs were closely related to birds then they would like this, right?

There was a moment where he looked like he was choking as he coughed and sniffled slightly before he looked up at me and seemed to let out a small trill of enjoyment.

I gave him half of the meat and saved the rest for later when the new hatchling finally hatched, and I still needed to think of a name for my little handsome boy.

I decided on Berilo which was a type of stone I'm pretty sure, and it suited him.

I curled up, on my bed, Berilo resting against my stomach and my hand lay on his side giving him gentle rubs. I could hear his gentle purring. My other hand rested on the egg.

I was starting to feel VERY tired.

I closed my eyes and decided I would take a little nap. One or two moments passed and I heard a loud CRACK!

Berilo lifted his head and my eyes snapped open. Four-fingered with blunt baby claws just like Berilos except this one had a dark grey colour with the pads a lighter grey.

I sat up and lifted Berilo gently down from the bed and took the egg to the bench.

I wedged my finger inside the egg-shell like I had with Berilo and chipped away at the egg. It was clear these two were looking very different, for one, the substance in this one's egg was thinner but stickier.

His scales were a dark grey with green highlights and lighter grey on the pads and undersides of his claws and belly and tail.

He had a few green spots up his neck for markings but they were pretty spread out and as I got a closer look at his eyes I saw one green eye and one amber eye blinking at me thoughtfully.

That was interesting

That was interesting.

His fins were a dark grey colour fading into green the further it got. He was gorgeous to say the least but I could tell by the way he was chittering softly, his head tilted studiously and his tail twitching that he was studying me.

I pulled him to my chest, no longer wearing the bodysuit and he was very wet and slimy. He let out a small purr and nuzzled into my arm.

I looked down at Berilo, he was making soft chittering sounds too, but he had had more time to learn how to walk and play and stuff so I didn't want him getting too close to the new dino until he had learnt the same.

I set the new one down and picked Berilo up.

Both stared at each other in awe before Berilo began scrambling to meet the other one who still hadn't figured out how to stand.

I let out a low growl through my teeth trying to imitate a lion or a wolf. Berilo let out a growl and snapped his jaws at me. My heart raced and somehow I managed to pull by hand away but was now holding him by one hand against my chest as he dug his claws into my arm.

I let out a hiss of pain and he seemed to stop momentarily before resuming. I threw him onto the bed, trying to show as much dominance as I could and held one hand on his neck and the other on his rump and continued to let out a growl.

He let out a soft chitter of defeat and I picked him up gently and we sat on the edge of the bed as he brother stumbled to walk.

I decided to name his brother Kori, for his darker colours. Of course, I did have a bit of help on my phone to find names for both of them.

When Kori had waddled around for a bit I let Berilo down. He let out a trill of happiness and ran to his brother, almost tripping on his own feet.

They really were like little kids.

The next day, Dr Wu came to see the little rippers, they had finished the rest of the meat in my cabinet and were chasing each other around the apartment. I had to hide everything that could be damaged or damaging to them.

I shut the bathroom door so they couldn't destroy too much in there and already hid most things. It was neat and tidy but kind of stank because prehistoric farts are no joke.

I waited to hear the knock at the door and got up to answer it. Dr Wu stood there, his hands folded behind his back and I ushered him in before the little boys could escape.

When Dr Wu saw Kori's heterochromia his eyes widened and he muttered and etched out things about asymmetry in genetic modifying.

He then pulled out a scale, weighed them, they were both only 5 kilograms which apparently wasn't that bad.

I knew Kori and Berilo did not trust him, they whined and protested a lot but didn't try to escape.

I felt a bit guilty because I was the one letting this all happen.

Dr Wu finished the checkup then turned to me. "I'll order more meat for you, in the meantime I want you to weigh them everyday to monitor their growth-rate and don't forget to record some of their interaction. Research is what powers this place."

I furrowed my brow at the statement, not feeling very happy when he was treating my boys like they were just some big science experiment.

"I've named them," I say, not sure why I said that but it caught his attention and he tilted his head slightly in shock at me.

"That's Berilo and that Kori," I point to each of the hatchlings individually.

"Why did you name them?" Dr Wu asks scoldingly. "You're going to get attached."

"Well, if I'm their trainer–" I began but he cut me off.

"We picked you so that they could assume human traits of love and empathy instead of being mindless monsters. You know they won't stay this size forever, and by that time they'll be too big and dangerous for humans to go near," he was breathless by the time he finished his speech.

"You- you-" I could feel tears swelling in my eyes and I didn't know why. "Ughh! Leave, this is my apartment."

He left the room and I locked the door and slumped against it, burrowing my face in my hands.

How cruel was that? I don't even know why I'm crying but tears won't stop falling down my cheeks and my heart won't stop throbbing with the prospect of losing my little princes.

I felt a scaly snout press against my cheek and lick the salty teardrops, a purr rumbling in its chest. Somehow, that made me feel worse but I looked up and saw Berilo chittering softly up at me. Kori behind him looked at me cautiously and hoped I wouldn't lash out in my despair.

I sniffled and wrapped both in my arms, my tears slowly fading and soon all I could think about were how cute the two little dinos in my arms were when they were sleeping.
