Chapter 27

"Are you hungry?" Dylan asks. He walks into the kitchen to prepare a meal.

She follows him in. "As a matter of fact, I am. What are we cooking?"

"We?" He smirks. "Let the professional handle this."

She throws her hand up and smiles. "Okay, I'll let you do your thing. It will probably be better that way, but you don't know what you're missing out on."

I can't wait until I find out, he thinks, but quickly push away the thoughts. He doesn't want to come off as if he only brought her here for one thing. He wants to at least feed her first. "Do you have anything in mind that you want to eat in particular."

"Whatever you cook should be fine. I'm not picky."

"Good answer." He opens the cabinet and the thing is just about empty. The refrigerator doesn't have much in it either.

Liana laughs. "What do you plan on feeding me. Air?"

He scratches his head. "Takeout sounds good right about now."

'GO TO THE STORE!' He scribbles on the board.

She smiles and stands from the table. They both go into the living room to relax as they wait for their meal to arrive.

"How was your day."

"An endless circle of laps. Not a real exciting day for me."

"Was something on your mind?"

"Not really." Dylan watches as she presses her lips together, not believing him. "Okay, you were on my mind."

"Oh." She turns her body more towards his and rests her head on her hand. "Do I distract you?"

"Yes," he says and she arches an eyebrow at him. "But a good one," he continues. "Thinking about you does not slow me down."

She smiles and diverts her eyes for a second. "So where we are you at right now. You know with your competition... or competitive swim meets," she rambles, not ever being able to find the right words to describe his competitions.

He huffs a laugh at her. "I am a few wins away from making it to the real competitive meets. Those will be out of town."

"Who's going to watch over Devin?"

"My grandmother. He will love that. He misses her."

"Aw. I'm glad to hear that."

He leans more in toward her. "I was hoping that you could come with me."

She shakes her head. "Nope," she teases.

He smirks. "As a translator." He further tries to convince her.

"I have a job."

"Jeremy wouldn't mind."

"And how do you know that?"

"I asked."

"Why," she exclaims and laughs. "Dylan, why did you do that."

He smiles and shrugs. "So that you would not have an excuse."

She lays her head down and glances up at him. "I still have to think about it... but I think you already know what answer I'm leaning towards. You really made it hard for me to decline."

"That was the plan." His eyes roam her body and then back to her eyes. "I enjoyed the time we had together last time... you know without the... accident."
