Chapter 34
Anthony and April await Dylan after his practice.
He greets them with a smile that doesn't reach his eyes. He takes a seat at the table.
Anthony clears his throat and lays out some papers. "Should you win tomorrow, these are the deals that these major companies have proposed. April has weeded out the no good ones."
Dylan looks over the papers and nod. "Just choose the ones you like. I will do it."
Anthony sighs and gathers the papers. "Okay. I'll get back to you after you when." He shows himself out of the room.
"Dylan I expected you to be happier this week. This is the last meet. Tomorrow you could be crowned an Olympic champion."
"And I will go out and give my all because of that. I just wish that everyone could be here."
"Dylan is flying out tomorrow," she says, hoping to cheer him up. "And someone else is coming with him."
Probably his grandmother. He talked to her earlier and already spoiled the surprise by saying that she was going to take a trip.
"Hey, look at me."
He looks up at April.
"This is your dream that you've talked about since we were teenagers. I know that you cared-"
"Care," he cuts in. "I care for her. I love her."
"And she loves you too. I am sure that she wouldn't want you to mope around. She would want to see you living your dream and enjoying yourself."
"And that is why I go out there and give my all every time."
April sighs. She stands to her feet and sits by the window. The sun beats down on her face giving her a lovely glow.
"I hate to see you like this."
"Like what?"
She smiles and looks down. "For the years that we have been friends, there isn't a day that I would come around and I could not cheer you up."
He shrugs. "Those days are over."
"Yeah, I hate that I let them slip away."
Dylan's brows furrow. "What is that supposed to mean? I do not need you to feel sorry for me."
"I do not. I just don't like seeing you this way. I know that you are sad every day."
"That is because my heart bleeds for Liana, but at least she is not doing it on purpose. Like you did to me."
"Dylan..." she gasps.
He stands to his feet. "You knew that I loved you and that you did not love me back, but instead of you just telling me that, you led me on for years that maybe one day we could be together."
"I was not ready to settle down."
"You could have told me to move on."
"I didn't because I love you too. I still do," she whispers.
Dylan drops his head in his hands. He shakes his and rubs his eyes. He stands to his feet. "Well it is too late."
He walks out of the room.
April lowers her chin to her chest. A single tear falls down her cheek for the love that she let slip away.

Dylan stretches his muscles out. He then bounces left to right as he shakes away all of the nerves.
He looks over his shoulder and Coach Train stands there like a proud father ready to cheer his son on.
