The weight of her decision felt suffocating. Sidh's proposal offered her a teenage dream come true-but only for six months. Then it would all be taken away, leaving her heart even more broken. Yet, if she refused, she'd devastate her parents and crush their hopes for a bright future for her.Her mind was a whirlwind of doubt, fears, and regrets. How could she deny the love her family had shown her by rejecting their wishes? How could she embrace a love that was destined to end before it could even begin? The tears came harder as she lay there, her thoughts a painful blur.
Lost in her turmoil, she didn't hear the gentle knock at her door. It creaked open, and Vidhya, her teenage sister, slipped quietly inside. Seeing Sathya curled up, face buried in the pillow, Vidhya's heart sank. She moved closer, her steps hesitant but filled with concern. She knew her sister's dreams better than anyone, and even though Vidhya was young, she understood the weight of sacrifice all too well.
Vidhya had seen Sathya put aside her dreams many times before. She remembered how Sathya once gave up a scholarship abroad to stay back and support the family when Vidhya had fallen seriously ill. How she'd worked late into the night, studying at home, so their parents wouldn't have to bear extra costs for tuition. Each time, Sathya had been there, silently shouldering responsibilities that a girl her age shouldn't have had to.
Seeing Sathya cry now, Vidhya felt an ache that was almost unbearable. She gently placed a hand on Sathya's shoulder. Sathya jolted up, surprised, quickly wiping her tears. Vidhya didn't say anything; she just sat beside her, sharing the silence, letting her presence be a quiet comfort.
Finally, in a voice filled with vulnerability, Sathya whispered, "Vidhya, I don't know what to do. I feel trapped."
Vidhya swallowed back her own tears and nodded, wrapping her arms around Sathya in a comforting embrace. She didn't have the answers, but she knew that whatever Sathya chose, she'd be there by her side, just as Sathya had always been for her.
In that moment, Sathya realized that no matter how hard life's choices were, she wasn't alone. And somehow, knowing her sister understood made the path just a little less daunting.
"Didi, what's wrong?" Vidhya asked softly, reaching out to touch Sathya's shoulder.
Sathya quickly composed herself, putting on a faint smile. "Nothing, Vidhya. It's just... I don't want to rush into marriage right now. I want to build my career, be independent," she replied, her voice unsteady but trying to sound confident.
But Vidhya saw right through her. With the kind of wisdom that belied her age, Vidhya shook her head, her eyes glistening. "No, Didi... I've watched you my whole life, sacrificing your dreams and wishes for our family. When we needed support, you were there. When I needed help, you were there. You always put us first. But now... now it's your time, Didi."
Sathya felt her defenses breaking as Vidhya continued, "Getting married and having a partner-it's one of the happiest things in life. You deserve happiness too, Didi. I want to see you laugh, to see you with someone who cherishes you. Please don't give up on love just because of us."
Sathya's heart shattered as she listened to Vidhya's earnest words. The weight of years of sacrifices, of dreams she had let slip through her fingers, pressed down on her. She couldn't hold back anymore. Tears streamed down her face as she reached out, pulling Vidhya into a tight embrace.
"Oh, Vidhya... My sweet little sister," she whispered, her voice thick with emotion. "You're right. You're so right. But... sometimes I don't know if that happiness is meant for me."
Vidhya tightened her hold, her own voice breaking. "It is, Didi. I know it is. I believe in it for you."
Sathya hugged Vidhya even closer, feeling an overwhelming surge of love and gratitude. She brushed a kiss on Vidhya's forehead and whispered, "I love you so much, my baby. You'll always be my strength."
