"What is this?" Tanong ko sa kanya habang nakatayo kami sa harap ng dining table. There were a few plates of different things resting in the middle of the huge wooden antique table like a buffet. I couldn't believe that he managed to make a whole line up just for dinner.
"My version of Chipotle." He grinned.
"Oooh, I've heard of that but I actually have never tried it." Sagot ko naman.
"And you get to try it tonight, baby." He excitedly said and led me closer to the table. "So, you have options; white rice, steak, chicken fajita, cheese, romaine lettuce, guacamole, beans, grilled sliced peppers, spicy red sauce, shrimp ceviche, and my favorite; sour cream." He said and then reached for a plate. "You put the rice and then you put whatever toppings you want. I was so fixated on this back when I was in high school, I would go to the nearest Chipotle after basketball practice."
I smiled at his adorable little story but then my nose scrunched as I looked at the plate of rice in his hand and then the grated white cheese and sour cream on the table.
"Cheese and sour cream with rice? I'm sorry, darling, but my rice-loving-Filipino-heart says that white rice only goes with soup dishes like Sinagang, Adobo or with dry ones like piniritong bangus." Sagot ko, holding back a gag. Gosh, just imagining the cheese and rice mixing makes me want to puke really bad.
"Okay, fair, but look, this is my combo.... I get the white rice, steak pieces, black beans, romaine lettuce, cheese, guacamole, and sour cream."
Now that he plated it, it looked really appetizing but somehow it doesn't sit right with my stomach.
"Darling, what?"
He chuckled at my reaction.
"Have a bite, if you don't like it, you can spit it out and I would never ever mention Chipotle ever again, pinky swear, baby." He said and even offered me his pinky.
I sighed and accepted his pinky promise.
"Okay!" He excitedly said and scooped a spoonful of rice with all the toppings. I chewed on my lower lip before I opened my mouth. I closed my eyes as I accepted the spoonful. I was ready to spit it out but I slowly opened my eyes as I chewed, the flavors are freaking amazing.
"You like it?"
"Hmm...I want another bite.."
He chuckled bago niya ako sinubuan ng isa pa.
"Okay, it's not....bad." I trailed and took the whole plate from him that made him laugh. He pulled out a chair for me and helped me sit on it while I had the plate full of food in front of me.
"This will even make it even better," He reached for the basket of homemade tortilla chips he made. "Scoop some with the chip. I promise you, it's bomb."
I did what he said.
"Darling, wow." My eyes were wide as I chewed. I genuinely love this Chipotle-thing now.
He chuckled as he watched my reaction.
"Told you, baby. Now, I think the chef deserves a kiss." He pointed to himself.
"Oh, I will fúck you, Chef. Five, six, seven positions? I don't care if my back hurts tomorrow, I'll ride your díck, daddy." I naughtily said.
He laughed again and planted a kiss on my temple. I love that he is so gentle, so caring and yet he could turn into a séx fiend in the bedroom.
Part of the reason why I didn't want to get married was because I am afraid of men who have weaponized incompetence. These days, it is very rare to see men who are actually men. So in lawschool, I was part of a sorority and most of the girls that I was with have already settled down with kids and husbands. The reason why I was terrified is because whenever we would do this yearly meetups, on top of law cases review, I would hear their rants about their husbands or more like man-children.
