Kimberly Jane
When I opened my eyes I saw my father sprang up from his seat and rushed to me. His white dress shirt now crumpled and his sleeves were rolled to his elbows.
"Hey, sweetie."
"I'm not five anymore, father." I groggily said.
He smiled softly and caressed my hair.
"Let me call a nurse, okay?" He said and immediately stepped out. I took a deep breath and looked down and I saw an IV line attached on the back of my left hand, and I realized that I was also wearing a hospital gown under the tanned sheets.
No more blood.
That's what I thought as I looked at my lower region under the sheets. My behind that I hit on the tiled floor was a bit sore, but other than that I feel fine. A few moments later, my father came back and a blonde woman with deep blue eyes, wearing a white coat over her pink scrubs.
"Hello, Kimberly. I'm Nurse Natalie Welch." She greeted me with a kind smile. She then grabbed the portable and movable computer from the corner and started typing on it as she stood by my bedside.
"How are you feeling?" She asked as she typed.
"I think I'm okay."
"On a scale of one two ten, with ten being the worst pain you've ever felt in your entire life, where are you at?"
"A one."
She nodded and continued typing.
"Do you know where you are?"
"Yes. Hospital, I only knew that this is GSMH because of the logo on your whitecoat's breaspocket." Sagot at itinuro ang logo ng ospital.
She smiled.
"Do you know your full name?"
"Kimberly Jane Wencezlao. Thirty-two years old. I was born on April 24th. I can recite the alphabet backwards if you would like me too."
She smiled again.
"Well, you pass the evaluation with flying colors." She said and put the movable computer back to the corner, and sat at the side of my bed.
"I-I don't recall going to the hospital."
She nodded.
"Yeah, your father rushed you to the emergency room while you were unconcious. Aside from the slight hormonal imbalance, stress mostly caused it."
Yeah, tell me about it.
"Yes. Doesn't help that the cause is standing behind you." Sarkastiko kong sagot at sandaling tiningnan ang Ama ko na ngayon ay nakahalukipkip.
My father pursed his lips and bowed his head, busying himself by pretending to look at his black shoes.
"Your vitals look good," She said and looked at the monitor on my side. "Everything seemed to be at baseline. I prescribed Venofer," She pointed at the IV bag hanging on the pole. "Though you don't have anemia, I still ordered it to compensate for the blood loss and to make sure that you won't have any risk of iron deficiency."
"I didn't know that nurses could prescribe medications now, thought it was a doctor's job." My father butted in and I widened my eyes at him.
"Father, you work in law not in medicine, so can you please keep your comments to yourself? I'm pretty sure Nurse Natalie knows what she's doing."
"I'm just curious, anak, and I want the best care for my daughter is all." He shrugged.
I rolled my eyes. Nurse Natalie chuckled a little.
