I knew that it was dumb, but somehow I ended up in the paddock again today. My initial plan was to fly back on Friday, today, but seeing Luka's and Lio's eyes, asking, no begging, me to go and see the fast cars drive, it made me change my plans.
After all they should be happy and I wanted to make everything possible that they were, knowing that if we go back we would just sit in my apartment again. So I wanted to gift them this weekend to have a little adventure.
Luckily when we entered the paddock today it was already midday, meaning that the first practice session was currently taking place, also meaning, that there won't be any driver around, any Daniel or Charles.
I felt bad for first one as the Aussie had really been a good friend of mine over all these years. It was not fair to ignore him like that, to block him out, but I didn't know what else to do. my mind was so confused and blanked out at the same time, I had no idea of life anymore.
"Can we see the fast cars drive?" Luka beamed on my hand and jumped up and down while we were walking over to RedBull.
"Yes we can honey, they are driving at the moment and later there's the second practice." I explained while Lio was happily clapping his hands, sitting on my hip.
I was glad that I still had the strength, holding him up, considering my loss of muscles. Sometimes even I had to sat him down as I wasn't able to hold him anymore, even though this hadn't been an issue with Luka last year where he was about the same height.
"Hello Max, hi kids." a woman from the team welcomed us in the garage.
I quickly returned the gesture before I walked upstairs, onto the RedBull balcony from where you had a great view over the track at the start and finish line. Exhausted I let myself fall onto the little sofa while Luka and Lio were standing at the glass railing, looking through it.
"So cool." the younger one giggled happily as some cars were driving by.
I didn't return anything, also not really interested in the session as I had to gather my strengths. They happily babbled something while watching the cars go by and I knew they were safe here so I leaned back a bit.
"There's the Ferrari!" Luka suddenly shouted, pointing down at the pitlane where the red car was slowly driving by.
"Yeah, Ferrari!" his younger brother laughed and clapped his hand.
I was still stunned by how much passion they had for the Italian team, but I guess Enzo Ferrari was right, when he said that a children would color a car red or something like that. That made me think of yesterday and our little, not so legal, visit of the Ferrari garage.
The kids had really loved it, talking about it all evening long, also at breakfast today, beaming over how cool it had been so sit in the red car and how amazing it was. It also reminded me of Charles's offer of grabbing lunch together, but to be honest I had never really considered it.
He shouldn't be bothered with me, he should focus on the race weekend as this season was looking go for him so far. The kids and I would only annoy him and he shouldn't be worried about us.
He also hadn't texted me about it again so he surely had forgotten it by now, probably busy with the arrival of his girlfriend. I would never admit it out loud, but it had surprised me, had made me think more about it then I would have liked.
