My heart missed a beat and my whole body froze, not knowing what to do. Luka also seemed to be overwhelmed, but he still was the first one to open his mouth.
"You said he was your friend, not your love!" he screamed at us, pointing at Charles while some tears developed in his eyes.
"I... Luka, I..." I started, my voice shaking as I had the feeling of betraying him.
He asked me not to do it and yet I fell for a guy. He asked me not to be this close with Charles and I didn't follow that.
"You promised!" he screamed back, before turning around and running off to his room.
I turned my head back, burying it in my hands as I started crying heavily. He had so much trust in me, he love me, accepted this new situation with me and now I had failed him.
"No, no, stop, please don't cry chérie, please." Charles whispered, slowly taking my hands away from my face, adding, "It's my fault, I shouldn't have kissed you."
"No!" I snapped back, before breaking down completely, slowly sliding down the kitchen island with my back, "It was me, I shouldn't haven fallen for you."
"You fell for me? Like in... in..." he asked quite surprised, but definitely liking the thought of it.
"Yes Charles, as in I love you." I blurred out, looking up through all my tears, "I fell for you way before he asked me not to, but I couldn't, I... I just needed you, you... you were the only one who was there... who understood..."
I cried heavily again. Charles was on his knees in front of me, brushing over my face in order of trying to calm me down.
"And now he hates me." I cried, gesturing over to Luka's room.
"No he doesn't." Charles assured me, slowly adding, "I can go after him, talk to him."
My tears stopped and I looked up at him, quite surprised at his idea.
"Y... You would do that?"
"Yeah sure, why not." he smiled back, brushing some more tears out of my face.
"He blames me for everything, so he might let you in." I sniffed, nodding my head.
Charles then leaned in, quickly leaving a kiss on my cheek, before he stood up.
"Drink some water, I will be right back." was all he said, then he was out of the kitchen.
I needed a few moments to fully calm down, so my breathing was back to normal. There still were bad thoughts in my mind, but Charles gave me hope. Hope, that together we could manage that.
Still I felt terrible. Luka had one request, trusted me with that, and yet I failed him. Now he was probably yelling at Charles, maybe even punching him out of his anger. As I wanted to know if my thought were true, I walked over to his bedroom, seeing that the door was open a little.
Not wanting him to know that I was there, I took my place next to the door frame, pressing my back against the wall. I knew it wasn't exactly nice to spy on him like that, but I needed to know if he hated me now.
"promised me that he wouldn't get a friend." I heard the last bit of Luka's sentence.
He had cried, I heard it in his voice. But then Charles's voice appeared and the warmth and calmness inside it instantly let me feel better.
"A friend as in a girlfriend or boyfriend?" he carefully asked, "You don't want Max to get a partner, so he can be there only for you?"
That was a valid point. Maybe he was scared that once I would find someone, I would leave them aside. But that wasn't true, I would never do that.
